About Illuvium
Illuvium is a multi-game franchise from Illuvium Labs anchored in a unified sci-fi universe populated by collectible creatures called Illuvials. Rather than a single title, it encompasses four interconnected games: Illuvium: Arena, a competitive auto-battler; Illuvium: Overworld, a 3D exploration and creature-capture experience; Illuvium: Zero, a base-management game for desktop and mobile; and Illuvium: Beyond, a portrait-collection game centered on hand-drawn Illuvial artwork called Illuvitars. NFT assets are issued on Immutable—initially Immutable X, migrating to Immutable zkEVM in 2024—while the ILV token exists as an ERC-20 on Ethereum.

How to play Illuvium
PC games distribute through the Epic Games Store with one installer for Overworld and Arena, and a separate download for Zero. Sign-in uses an Immutable Passport that serves simultaneously as a wallet for tokens and NFTs. Cross-title progression is intentional: Fuel generated in Zero gates higher-tier Overworld zones, and Illuvials obtained in Overworld—currently via automated drone runs—retain their stats and bonuses when entering Arena matches. Currently as of mid-2026, Arena remains the actively developed flagship with regular balance updates and modes including Deathmatch, while Overworld is offline undergoing rebuilding as an MMO.
Illuvium tokenomics & earning
ILV functions as a governance token via the Illuvinati Council, a marketplace medium of exchange, and a staking asset; sILV2 serves as the in-game variant usable for ecosystem purchases rather than yield generation. Illuvials, land and Illuvitars are tradeable NFTs on the dedicated marketplace, the IlluviDEX. Earnings derive from asset valuations and competitive performance, with no guarantees.
Is Illuvium worth playing?
Currently available: one actively developed competitive game in Arena, collection mechanics in Beyond, and resource management in Zero. The timing caveat remains significant: Overworld is offline during its rebuild, and Zero receives only incremental patches while development emphasis shifts to the MMO, so the complete interconnected experience described is not yet fully playable.
Pros
- Combines strategy, collectible-card and role-playing mechanics in an open environment
- Gather, develop and engage Illuvials in competitive matchups
- Blockchain-secured true ownership with transparent and secure in-game assets
- Earn rewards through asset trading and ranked competitive participation
- High-quality visuals and established player base with assets spanning Ethereum and Immutable X
Cons
- Blockchain wallet and crypto asset understanding needed to access full functionality
- Multi-chain presence across Ethereum and Immutable X complicates initial setup
- Ranked progression paths can require substantial time commitment
- Asset trading and earnings introduce cryptocurrency market risk exposure
Illuvium functions as a four-part franchise centered on one sci-fi universe and creature roster—the Illuvials. Arena delivers competitive auto-battler gameplay, Overworld offers 3D exploration and capture mechanics, Zero provides base-building, and Beyond focuses on portrait collection. The four titles interlock by design—Fuel from Zero gates Overworld progression tiers, Overworld-acquired Illuvials retain stats into Arena—and this interconnection, rather than tokenomics, represents the core idea.
What functions well: Arena operates as a genuine competitive game with regular balance refinements and fresh modes, with unusually low friction for blockchain-based entry. Epic Games Store distribution and Immutable Passport sign-in—which silently serves as wallet—keep the blockchain aspect peripheral during onboarding.
What falters: the interdependence architecture remains incomplete. Overworld sits offline undergoing MMO reconstruction, and Zero receives only minor adjustments while effort concentrates on that rebuild. Illuvials come currently from automated drone runs rather than the exploration the promotional material suggests.
Ideal for auto-battler enthusiasts valuing roster ownership and collectors comfortable waiting through development. Those seeking the fully realized connected experience should defer.
