Not once have the Nine Titans turned up in an Attack on Titan game. On 10 December, that streak ends.
Omega Force’s third hack and slash outing picked up its release date overnight, and it comes packing something neither predecessor could deliver: the ending. The anime closed out in November 2023 after a decade-long run, and the game now gets to put the culmination of the series straight into your hands.
Pre-orders are open.
A quiet month makes a clever hiding spot
By dropping on 10 December, Attack on Titan 3 steps around Grand Theft Auto VI and the rest of the autumn crush. No fighting for air against the biggest release on the calendar — just an open lane in a slow month.
For a franchise entry that has been waiting its turn since 2019, that counts for something.
The ODM problem, finally addressed
This is the request fans have been making since the 2016 original: get the ODM gear feeling right.
Omni-directional mobility gear is how the Scouts move. It’s how they fight. It’s the entire grammar of an Attack on Titan action sequence, and in the earlier installments the combat built around it fell well short.
The new game’s synopsis states the case bluntly: “The omni-directional mobility action has evolved, letting you zip through the air with even greater freedom. Titans now move in more varied and unpredictable ways, posing an even deadlier threat. Together, these upgrades deliver intense battles where you read each Titan’s movements on the fly and take them down with flexible, responsive tactics. You can also turn on simple controls, so even players who aren’t confident with action games can pull off maneuvers worthy of a veteran Scout.”
Koei Tecmo’s pledge: “the most exhilarating and stylish combat the series has ever seen.”
New story, new Titans
This isn’t a straight rerun of the finale you already watched. It arrives with “brand-new story developments in addition to intense new battles against the Nine Titans, who make their first in-game appearance here.”
Which means more than the show handed you. That’s the entire pitch.
How a walled city took over everything
Attack on Titan followed the last of humanity inside a walled city, surviving only by staying behind those walls, with the giant humanoid figures known as Titans waiting on the other side.
The manga went on to become one of the best-selling of all time. Its anime adaptation first aired in 2013 and turned the property into one of the most beloved franchises going.
Game developers took note. Omega Force put out the first hack and slash of the same name in 2016, then a sequel in 2019 — both published by Koei Tecmo in Japan and afterwards worldwide, and both drawing on events from the manga and the anime.
What you’re actually signing up for
Pre-order bonuses are part of the package. And if you’ve been meaning to get good at ODM gear, or you just want to put yourself through the finale again on purpose, the wishlist button is sitting right there.
Third time asking the same question: can a game make flying between rooftops with grappling hooks feel as good as it looks?
Omega Force’s answer is yes. December will settle it.
So relive the pain. 10 December — this time with better gear.
