Sony’s Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense lands on 25 September, and pre-orders go live on 27 August. PlayStation Plus members are given a two-day advantage, starting 25 August. The pad wears two separate shades of blue, a two-tone look that isn’t going to disappear into your sofa. Anyone who likes blue has already made up their mind about this one.
The comments went somewhere else entirely
On the PlayStation UK Twitter/X account, the reply section became a vote on the future of physical media instead.
“Can I get a digital version? You hate physical, remember?,” one user asked. Another said, “It’s just disrespectful that you’ll sit here posting about a controller color, but won’t address discs.”
Plenty of others needed only four words: “no disc, no buy.”
Why a controller color became a fight
According to reports, PlayStation’s next console generation could arrive as soon as 2027, and the marquee shift Sony is said to be planning is doing away with physical games altogether. There’s the bittersweet catch. A PlayStation 6 might open a new chapter for gaming while quietly shutting the door on actually owning anything.
Which is why a post about a blue controller doesn’t slide past unnoticed.
The PS5 era has been a lot
Cast your mind back to the 2020 launch: empty shelves, scalpers working overtime, and the broader misery of buying anything at all during the COVID-19 pandemic. On top of that, Sony has spent the last six years fielding complaints about how sparse the PS5’s exclusive slate has been.
That complaint is losing its footing. Sony has said its exclusives will remain properly exclusive instead of showing up on PC shortly after launch.
The games have been the good news
This stretch delivered Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Rise of Ronin, with more besides. And Sony evidently hasn’t wrapped up the PS5 chapter, given that a brand-new piece of hardware arriving in September is aimed at a console entering its final years.
From here until the PlayStation 6 finally surfaces, Sony carries plenty of burden of proof. At the moment, the loudest replies in its mentions have nothing to do with what color the controller is.
