Some YouTube users say the dislike button has already moved into the three-dots menu, and it may be headed there for everyone. If the change spreads, telling YouTube you didn’t enjoy a video will take more work.
Recently, at least two people on X shared screenshots in which the dislike button appears inside the three-dots submenu below a video instead of beside the like button. On Reddit, one user posted an image of a video page where no dislike button could be seen at all.
No change on my account yet
So far my own account looks the same as before. The dislike button still sits right next to the like button, which is where it has been for years.
Having it there is why it gets used so easily. Hiding it in a submenu means an extra tap and some hunting around, and fewer people would probably make the effort.
How broadly this apparent test is running isn’t clear. Google didn’t respond right away when asked for comment.
The dislike button has been trimmed back before
If this goes ahead, it would be the button’s third change. Back in 2021, YouTube stopped showing public dislike counts on videos to help “protect creators from harassment,” though creators can still view the dislike counts on their own uploads.
Earlier this year, YouTube took the dislike button off YouTube Shorts and pointed users toward the options in the three-dots menu instead. To get a preview of where the main video page might be going, open any Short and check that menu.
