In Brief:

  • Pudgy Penguins has stocked its Pengu plush line at more than 1,800 Target locations across the United States, marking the brand’s largest retail rollout so far.
  • The launch places the $PENGU IP in front of millions of shoppers and builds on a licensing model that returns 5% of net revenue to the NFT holders whose penguins appear on the products.
  • Over 24 hours, PENGU gained 4.6% to reach a weekly high of $0.0065, yet traders are looking for tokenomics linked to physical sales before treating the deal as a catalyst.

Pudgy Penguins has placed its Pengu plush toys on the shelves of over 1,800 Target stores nationwide, the biggest retail expansion the brand has attempted yet.

The team unveiled the rollout on July 19, describing it as its first mainstream debut at that kind of scale. “Today, for the first time, Pengu has been officially introduced to millions of new people in retail,” Pudgy Penguins said. “We’re proud to announce that Pengu is now available on all Target shelves across the USA with the launch of our new plushie line.”

Token ticks up

On the day the news broke, PENGU rose 4.6% and set a fresh weekly high of $0.0065, though it remained under its monthly peak.

Traders stayed cautious. Before viewing retail milestones as a price driver, many are waiting for a concrete tie between physical sales and token economics — think revenue sharing, buybacks or staking. Absent those levers, the plush launch looks more like brand-building than an immediate catalyst.

A years-long retail push

The Target agreement continues a plan Pudgy Penguins has pursued since 2023, when its Pudgy Toys landed in more than 2,000 Walmart stores. In May 2024, CEO Luca Netz said the brand had moved over 1 million toys in the previous 12 months.

The plush debut comes after the Vibes Series 3 trading cards arrived at Target, lifting the total cards in circulation to 15 million and introducing a crossover with the Moonbirds collection.

Under Pudgy Penguins’ licensing structure, 5% of net revenue from physical goods flows back to the NFT holder whose penguin is featured on the item. The Ethereum-based collection has spent years turning its artwork into a consumer brand that now covers toys, cards and licensing.

Every toy also connects to the project’s gaming side. Shoppers scan a QR code to unlock digital traits and content in Pudgy World, the browser game built on zkSync Era, offering a path that guides mainstream buyers toward on-chain products without needing an exchange account.

The launch is a test of whether a crypto-native character can compete for shelf space alongside conventional toy brands instead of remaining confined to limited web3 drops. Inside Target, Pax, Pengu and Polly sit beside household staples such as Mickey Mouse and Bluey.
