A slain officer reawakens trapped inside a machine. That’s the hook Prime Video is leaning on, and nearly four decades after Paul Verhoeven first sent a cyborg patrolling the streets of Detroit, RoboCop is making the jump to television.
The upcoming show spans eight episodes and hails from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster — horror outfits that rarely traffic in badge-toting metal men. That pairing on its own is enough to make you look twice.
At the helm is Peter Ocko. If his name rings a bell, it’s likely thanks to Lodge 49 or Pushing Daisies, and here he’s handling creator, writer and executive producer roles.
He won’t be tackling it solo. James Wan is on board, as is Ed Neumeier, one of RoboCop’s original co-creators. Bringing back a founding architect is no small thing.
Now for the detail that jumps out. The official synopsis revolves around a corporation that constructs a police cyborg housing the transferred consciousness of a deceased officer. Yet it never names Alex Murphy. It never mentions Omni Consumer Products.
There are a few ways to interpret that. Perhaps those names are on the way and Prime Video is simply keeping them under wraps. Or perhaps this iteration wants breathing room to stand on its own, free from the burden of every callback the fanbase anticipates.
Wan himself said the fresh interpretation will preserve the spirit of the original while probing contemporary concerns about technology, identity and corporate power. Which, if you've seen the 1987 film, is essentially the entire premise of RoboCop reoutfitted for 2026.
There’s no cast attached. No release window. Just a setup that mirrors the movie precisely and a description that stops short of confirming it. That silence is the most intriguing aspect of the whole announcement, and right now, it’s the one thing no one is willing to clarify.
