A PS5 bought for a single game. A prognosis measured in weeks. And a release date that isn’t until November.
That is the situation described by Reddit user u/lexakommurry, who posted asking strangers to help her get through to Rockstar. Her father, she explained, is a lifelong GTA fan with thousands of hours logged across the earlier entries in the series, and he bought a PS5 for one reason: to play GTA 6 when it launches. Then he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He is now at home on hospice care, and according to his daughter he has only a few weeks left.
Which leaves her asking for the one thing that could still happen in time: some way for him to play GTA 6 before he passes.
Whatever paperwork Rockstar wants, she’ll sign it
The post has since been taken down, but not before the request spread. She made clear she would give Rockstar any details the studio asked for.
“We’d gladly provide proof of his hourly commitment, his diagnosis, and sign an NDA or any other legal paperwork needed,” she wrote. “He’s a wonderful man and has been a great dad. I would love to let him have access to something he’s looked forward to for years before he goes.”
It’s worth noting the tone. There’s no demand here and no attempt at a publicity stunt. It’s simply a daughter with one option left, which is to ask loudly enough that someone in a position to help might notice.
There is precedent, and it has paid off before
GTA 6 ranks among the most anticipated games ever made, and for some fans that anticipation carries a darker weight. Terminally ill players who may not survive until launch have been requesting play tests or early access while they still can.
A few of those pleas have gotten through. One terminally ill fan pursuing a play test received a reply from the Take-Two CEO. That history is a big part of why this post got the reaction it did.
Reddit, at its best, responded the way Reddit does. Some users directed her to Rockstar’s press email. Others simply offered their support.
“I hope this gets seen by Rockstar and your dad gets to play,” wrote one user. Another added: “I remember Rockstar did something similar for a kid. May God bless your dad.”
Rockstar’s silence so far
For the record: neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has issued any statement about this specific request. The post is gone, the appeal is circulating, and whether anyone inside the studio has seen it remains unknown.
The timeline, however, is not in question. A man who bought a console for one game is in hospice with weeks remaining, and that game is still months from release.
“He’s a wonderful man and has been a great dad,” his daughter said. That is the entire argument, and it’s the one she hopes Rockstar will read.
