Axie Infinity creator Sky Mavis announced that on January 22nd, all Axie Origin Coin (AOC) tokens will be migrated from Ethereum to the Ronin blockchain. This marks a pivotal moment in the game’s history.
The Essence of AOC Tokens
AOC tokens play a crucial role in Axie Infinity. They are the genesis point for Origin axies, the forebears of all axies (excluding MEO axies). To date, 1,375 AOC tokens have been minted, yet they remain unused on Ethereum. This migration to Ronin sets the stage for these tokens to fulfill their destiny – giving life to Origin axies. It’s a simple equation: 5 AOC tokens equal one Origin axie.
A Mystic Opportunity
What’s more thrilling is the chance for these new Origin axies to possess Mystic parts, a rare and sought-after trait. Each body part of an Origin axie has a 1/18 chance of being a Mystic part, making the upcoming roll an exciting gamble.
This migration isn’t just a technical move; it’s a collector’s dream. Post-migration, there will be two categories of Origin axies: the ancestral, low-ID ones, and the new, high-ID migrated ones. This adds a fresh layer of rarity and intrigue to the Axie Infinity ecosystem.
Snapshot and Migration Mechanics
The migration process is straightforward. A snapshot of the AOC contract on Ethereum will be taken at the migration time. Following this, AOC tokens will be transferred to corresponding Ronin addresses. For instance, if an Ethereum address holds 45 AOC tokens at the snapshot time, the same number will be credited to its Ronin counterpart. Note, after the snapshot, the AOC contract on Ethereum will be paused, making the migration to Ronin essential.
