Mike Winkelmann, popularly known as Beeple is launching new non-fungible tokens (NFTs) platform “We.new” on Polygon. The platform will feature NFTs of iconic moments from sports, politics, art, and fashion.
We.new has support from very popular and influential personalities and organizations, including TIME, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Wasserman, and Endeavor.
The first auction on We.new is going to be held from July 2 to 5. Pictures of the famous tennis star Andy Murray’s 2013 Wimbledon Grand Slam victory will be put on auction. The winner of this auction will get a chance to play a real tennis match with Andy Murray and get two tickets for the 2022 Wimbledon Finals.
The We.new platform will offer NFTs that are more than digital collectibles. NFT owners will enjoy unique and exciting real-life experiences like meeting their favorite stars and opportunities to secure valuable physical products from them.
Beeple has chosen the Polygon network to make his new project more environmentally friendly and reduce the carbon footprint. Polygon uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism cleaner than the proof-of-work mechanism since miners do not have to run high energy consumption mining machines to validate new transactions on the network.
Beeple has contributed to the massive NFT boom at the start of this year after the sale of his popular artwork made big news in the NFT space. He sold his digital artwork called ‘The First 5000 Days’ for a staggering amount of $69.3 million, making it the third-most valuable artwork sold by a living artist. The artwork was a collage of 5000 drawings that the artist made every day from May 1, 2007, to Jan. 7, 2021.
