French developer Eden Games, known for popular racing games like Gear.Club and Test Drive Unlimited, announced its acquisition by Animoca Brands in 2022. The team has now introduced its debut web3 native title, Cosmic Royale, as part of the Motorverse ecosystem of racing games.
In a recent interview with Eden Games co-founder David Nadal, he shared insights into the development and design process of Cosmic Royale. The idea for the game emerged in the fall of 2022, blending elements of Fall Guys with the team’s expertise in vehicle-based gameplay. Nadal emphasized bridging web3 and traditional gaming to create a unique gaming experience.
When asked about designing and developing a blockchain game compared to a traditional game, Nadal highlighted the importance of considering technical and legal aspects unique to the blockchain ecosystem. Monetization, community engagement, and NFT integration are key factors that differentiate blockchain games from traditional ones.
The integration of blockchain technology in racing games offers players the ability to own and trade their in-game assets as NFTs, enhancing the overall gaming experience. Cosmic Royale’s inclusion in the Motorverse platform aligns with Animoca Brands’ vision of creating a thriving digital economy within its ecosystem.
Despite the promising future of web3 gaming, Nadal acknowledged challenges in adoption and player experience. However, he remains optimistic about attracting hundreds of thousands of players to Cosmic Royale, leveraging the partnership with Mocaverse to engage a broad player base.
Looking ahead, Eden Games plans to focus on providing regular content updates and new features for Cosmic Royale. Players can access the game through the Cosmic Royale website, catering to both web3 enthusiasts and traditional gamers alike.
