August 31 marks the exit date for five titles in the Xbox Game Pass library, and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt – Remastered Edition is among them. Anyone who has been delaying that replay now has a hard deadline to work with.
The departures were confirmed by Microsoft in an official Xbox Wire announcement. All of the listed games disappear on the same date. Once they’re gone, buying them outright is the only way back in.
It’s the side of the subscription bargain that never shows up in marketing. Titles rotate in, titles rotate out, and the library you subscribed to won’t be the same one three months down the line.
The five games leaving
Heading out is Another Crab’s Treasure, the cartoon-styled underwater soulslike RPG, alongside the FPS I Am Your Beast.
Joining them is Neon Abyss, a heavily stylized run-and-gun roguelike, plus One Lonely Outpost, a 2025 addition to the service.
Rounding it out is the CD Projekt RED title — the departure that will actually register with most subscribers.

Why The Witcher 3 stings
February of this year is when The Witcher 3 landed on Game Pass. Only a handful of months later, it’s on its way out — a brief stint for a game of that scale.
A likely explanation exists. Eleven years after launch, the game is receiving all-new content, and the studio could be looking to drive sales in the lead-up to that DLC. Removing it from a subscription service just before fresh content lands isn’t a coincidence that requires much squinting.
The DLC everyone’s speculating about
The expansion goes by Songs of the Past. Reportedly set in Toussaint — the region featured in the Blood and Wind DLC — it puts Geralt of Rivia on a fresh adventure.
A large chunk of the fanbase expects it to connect the third mainline entry with the forthcoming The Witcher 4. Nothing is confirmed, but that’s the theory carrying the most weight right now.

One more removal, a week later
That August 31 batch doesn’t cover everything. The same announcement confirms NBA 2K26 departs on September 6.
Exits like this typically trace back to the contracts signed between studios and the publisher, along with the everyday need to make space for incoming titles. It’s business, not punishment.
What’s arriving to fill the gaps
The second batch of August additions brings Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and the Game Preview build of Vapor World: Over the Mind. RPG fans have been well served on the service this year, and one of 2026’s standout releases arrived recently, handing subscribers early access to a genuine candidate at this year’s gaming awards.
Churn, then, rather than contraction. The model is behaving exactly as intended — which is cold comfort when your save file is left hanging.
The window closes on August 31. Play them free, or pick them up on discount and carry on long after the servers stop caring about your subscription status.
