Moonray Raises $10M from Animoca, Polygon and more!

Moonray, an Ethereum-based sci-fi combat arena game, has secured a $10 million investment in its latest funding round.

The game’s expansion plans include a notable launch on the PlayStation 5 scheduled for 2025, signaling Moonray’s ambitious stride toward bridging the gap between traditional and Web3 gaming.

This round was oversubscribed and led by significant players in the venture capital world, including Animoca Brands, Polygon Ventures, and Taisu Ventures, among others.

The game developers have crafted an intricate ecosystem beyond the typical gaming experience. Moonray has integrated its gaming world with graphic novels Mother’s Skin and Echoes of Ascension, which are currently distributed in over 4,000 stores across North America and the UK. This unique approach enriches the player’s experience and deepens the narrative surrounding the game’s universe.

Innovative Approaches and Future Plans

The game began testing on PC in 2023 and quickly became a robust multiplayer combat arena. With a successful alpha launch on the Epic Games Store, Moonray introduced campaigns offering rewards to engage players actively.

The game’s development team is committed to simplicity in-game economics, shifting away from the “pay-to-win” model, and is currently exploring mobile expansions to reach a broader audience.

Moonray has also set records on OpenSea, with a landmark NFT mint that further underscores its innovative approach to game monetization and community engagement.

Yat Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, commented, “We are excited by Moonray’s innovative approach to expanding the Web3 gaming landscape. It demonstrates how seamless integration of blockchain technology can enhance user experiences. By allowing traditional players to enjoy the game without barriers while offering blockchain enthusiasts additional features, Moonray is helping to bridge the gap between conventional and Web3 gaming.”

“We’re all so excited to see Moonray and web3 gaming overall being exposed to a whole new audience of gamers,” says Takashi Hayashida, the founder of Taisu Ventures. “Web3 titles going mainstream on platforms such as Playstation shows the success this industry has had over the past few years, and we truly hope that Moonray can inspire players to try more games in the genre and that it encourages game devs to make more of them, too” he said.
