Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive in November with neither microtransactions nor generative AI, according to Rockstar Games. Two of the internet’s most dependable sources of outrage have been removed before anyone even boots the thing up.

The studio made the confirmation during a conversation with Kinda Funny Games earlier this week. That means when the game lands in a few months, its launch should avoid backlash on those two fronts, at the very least.

How the question actually got asked

Andy Cortez of Kinda Funny said he put the question to Rockstar himself, during a preview event staged ahead of the GTA 6: Extended Look, asking whether players would be able to spend real-world money on in-game items. He continued, saying, “no monetizations in this game.”

Greg Miller wasted no time following up on the other topic. He said he asked Rockstar “point-blank” whether generative AI appears in GTA 6. The response from the team was that there is “no AI” used in the game.

The timing of that second answer matters. Across titles from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Arc Raiders, generative AI has repeatedly shown itself to be an especially thorny thing for developers to build into their games. The millions of people who have waited 13 years for the next Grand Theft Auto may be relieved that comparable accusations won’t hang over the mid-November release.

The microtransaction answer has an asterisk

Rockstar says GTA 6 won’t carry the sort of monetization systems that let players hand over real cash for content. That’s welcome news for a release that is entirely single-player. It also serves as a further sign the team isn’t preparing to say anything about a new version of Grand Theft Auto Online in the near future.

Still, the absence of microtransactions in the conventional sense doesn’t mean the absence of paid content. Part of it is locked to the Ultimate Edition, which costs $99.99 — $20 more than the $79.99 standard edition.

Buying that tier unlocks exclusive material: cosmetic packs, vehicles, weapons and even a handful of shops, among them the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and the Stock 305 clothing store. Rockstar’s official support page confirmed that owners of the standard edition can buy an Ultimate Edition upgrade on its own.

“Ultimate Edition bonuses are threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter,” the page added.

What that leaves for launch day

Setting the Ultimate Edition aside, the indication is that players won’t run into other microtransaction tactics, or generative AI, when GTA 6 releases for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.

A lot more will surface between now and then. As things stand, the offer is a $99.99 tier whose bonus content is woven through Jason and Lucia’s story instead of being sold off piecemeal after the fact.
