Nvidia plans to establish a hub in Vietnam to enhance the country’s semiconductor (chip) sector. The announcement follows the recent visit of Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, indicating a strong commitment from the tech giant.
Nvidia’s Growing Footprint in Vietnam
Nvidia has already made considerable investments in Vietnam, amounting to around US$250 million. The establishment of a legal entity in Vietnam marks a further deepening of the company’s involvement in the region. The move aligns seamlessly with Vietnam’s ambitions to develop its chip design and manufacturing capabilities, especially in the context of current global trade dynamics.
During his visit to a Hanoi-based semiconductor and artificial intelligence conference, Huang revealed Nvidia’s plans to open a design center in Vietnam. Although specific details about the technology and capabilities of this facility remain under wraps, it represents a significant step forward in Nvidia’s expansion strategy.
Nvidia’s recent initiative came when Vietnam actively sought to improve its diplomatic and economic relations with the United States, particularly in developing its semiconductor industry. The US State Department’s recent partnership with Vietnam under the Chips Act further supports this goal, as it seeks to ensure semiconductor supply chain security and includes significant incentives.
