Rebel Wolves has confirmed that The Blood of Dawnwalker is getting a difficulty setting easier than anything currently in the game, pitched at players who showed up for the narrative and have little appetite for punishing combat.
It arrives as part of the RPG’s first major update, which is pencilled in for early October across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Story Mode will likely be rebranded
There is a twist. According to game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the existing Story Mode is expected to be renamed “Demanding.” In its place comes a markedly easier option designed for anyone who wants to experience the plot without the combat system acting as a roadblock.
The name change speaks volumes. Anyone who selected Story Mode hoping for a relaxed experience clearly wasn’t alone, and the studio seems to have taken note.
Still unanswered
What hasn’t been made clear is whether the new setting allows players to bypass encounters outright or merely turns the difficulty down substantially. Whichever it turns out to be, the goal is identical: fewer battles between you and the next chapter of the story.
Everything else in the update
Beyond the difficulty change, the patch delivers performance improvements on PC, tweaks to camera and targeting, and a cleaner way to disengage from fights that are turning against you. (If you’ve ever found yourself boxed in with no way out, that last addition will land harder than it reads.)
Further specifics are promised ahead of the update’s release.
For now, the “Demanding” label waits in the wings for every player who assumed Story Mode was the soft option.
