Rockstar’s careful wording on GTA 6’s map leaves Leonida’s theme park question unresolved

A section of the GTA 6 community has spent years insisting that Leonida contains Rockstar’s take on Walt Disney World. The studio has now poured some cold water on that belief, though its answer is less conclusive than several headlines have made it sound.

Paul MacPherson, senior vice president of environment art at Rockstar Games, spoke on 29 September about how locations were picked for Grand Theft Auto VI’s fictional state. Asked about central Florida and the theme parks that most people link to the area, he gave a courteous, carefully phrased reply. Notably, he did not say no.

“So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!” MacPherson said.

A great deal hangs on that single word, “may.”

Check the wording before giving up hope

Because this is an official Rockstar statement, it outweighs anything the fanbase has assembled up to now. Still, the details matter. MacPherson never claimed that GTA 6 lacks amusement parks, fairgrounds or tourist spots. His point concerned whether well-known real-world locations receive direct fictional equivalents.

The takeaway is more limited than some suggest. Players shouldn’t expect every famous Florida destination to be recreated inside Leonida, nor should they bank on a one-to-one parody of the region’s most recognisable theme parks. Yet anyone claiming GTA 6 definitely has no theme parks at all is stretching MacPherson’s remarks beyond what they actually say.

MacPherson also shed light on the studio’s decision-making process. Florida serves as Leonida’s inspiration, but Rockstar isn’t replicating the state location by location.

“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distil a list down that best works with and serves the game’s needs,” MacPherson said.

In other words, the game’s requirements shape the map rather than a list of tourist hotspots. That’s a sensible priority, even if it lets down players who dreamed of robbing a mouse-eared castle.

How the Fairyland theory took root

Speculation about a Disney-style destination predates MacPherson’s comments by a long way. Following the major 2022 GTA VI development leak, fans combed through the files and spotted references that some interpreted as pointing to a location connected to “Fairyland.” Discussion in the community also highlighted a label that read “Fairyland Forest Puzzle.”

It’s worth being precise about this: it was leaked development material filtered through fan interpretation. Nothing in it amounted to an official announcement of a Walt Disney World parody from Rockstar.

Even so, the theory refused to die. Fans attempted to piece together Leonida’s layout using unofficial map reconstructions and, later, promotional material. Reddit threads repeatedly returned to the same case: theme-park culture is such a major part of Florida that Rockstar couldn’t possibly omit it.

Lester joined the conversation too

Jay Klaitz, the actor behind Lester Crest in Grand Theft Auto V, stoked the debate in an April interview. He was talking hypothetically and disclosed nothing about Rockstar’s plans. In his view, it would be “interesting” if the studio attempted the concept, and he playfully suggested a name.

“Psycho Park or whatever,” Klaitz said.

This was a former cast member playing along with fan curiosity, not proof of what the final map contains. Set against an on-the-record answer from Rockstar’s own environment art lead, it counts for far less.

A few questions remain unanswered. MacPherson’s comments don’t exclude every type of theme park or attraction from Leonida. What they do is make a straight copy of Orlando’s famous resorts seem a lot less probable.

Players won’t have to wait long to find out for themselves. Grand Theft Auto VI is currently listed by Rockstar for release on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
