RON Holders Get First Governance Vote on Deploying Ronin Treasury Liquidity to Katana

Apeiron APRS Token Attracts $75M Worth of RON Staked

In Brief:

  • RGP-1, the first governance proposal on Ronin, puts a question to RON holders: should treasury assets supply liquidity to the RON/WETH and RON/USDC pools on Katana?
  • Each RON counts as one vote (1 RON = 1 vote), and a proposal passes only with a 66% supermajority.
  • The vote is the first real test of Ronin’s move from passive staking rewards to token-weighted control of the treasury.

RON holders will decide whether the network’s treasury provides liquidity for its two main trading pairs on Katana. It is the first proposal to go through Ronin’s new governance framework.

The proposal, called RGP-1, covers the RON/WETH and RON/USDC pools. Ronin announced it on X, writing: “The first Ronin Governance proposal is coming!”

The first Ronin Governance proposal is coming!
RGP-1 asks whether Ronin Treasury assets should be deployed as liquidity for RON/WETH and RON/USDC on Katana.
The goal is deeper liquidity, easier price discovery, lower slippage, and more trading fees flowing back to the treasury.

Ronin said the proposal is meant to deepen liquidity, make price discovery easier and cut slippage. It also wants a larger share of trading fees going back into the treasury.

How the vote works

Voting power depends only on how much RON a holder has, with one vote per token. To pass, a proposal needs a 66% supermajority.

Proposals won’t go to a vote right away. Each one starts as a discussion on the community forum. It then has to pass a temperature check run by the Ronin Ecosystem team before voting begins.

Ronin said the supermajority requirement also means a single holder would need more RON to decide a vote alone. The team added that it can change the framework if problems come up.

The RGP-1 process is set to begin in October.

Where the money comes from

RGP-1 would be paid for out of the treasury’s existing reserves. Ronin said any future top-ups for ecosystem liquidity would follow rules approved through governance.

The treasury is also about to grow. In October, the Ronin Ecosystem team plans to transfer a first batch of 16,234,252 RON into it.

That batch comes from the 90 million RON in staking rewards the team said earlier this year it would return to the ecosystem. The rest will be released quarterly through 2031 on the existing vesting schedule.

In July, Ronin said the 90 million RON allocation would lift treasury holdings above 100 million RON, which is more than 10% of total supply.

What holders can and can’t vote on

The new framework covers economic and treasury matters. For now, protocol and security-critical decisions stay with validator governance.

Ronin plans to expand the governance dashboard over time. It would add ecosystem funding initiatives, treasury allocations, incentive programs, protocol and ecosystem upgrades, and community-driven proposals.

RON Conviction changes builder rewards

Ronin also announced a change to Proof of Distribution alongside the governance launch. Since Sept. 10, Builder Scores have included a new weighting called “RON Conviction.”

Builders whose communities keep holding RON get a bonus on their rewards. Builders whose communities show selling pressure get their rewards reduced.

Ronin is also building an Honor Score, a reputation system that tracks what users contribute across the ecosystem. The company said it will give builders engagement data and could later be used for onchain identity verification.

Background

The governance launch follows Ronin’s announcement in March that it would end passive staking rewards. Under that plan, authority moves from validators to token-weighted voting, and RON holders decide on treasury buybacks, investments and DeFi activity.

Ronin said new treasury income would come from three sources: bigger fee splits on Ronin marketplace transactions, sequencer profits, and token revenue from games and apps built on the network.

On May 12, the network finished a hard fork that made it an OP Stack rollup on Ethereum.

Money was already flowing into the treasury before the vote. Since Ronin’s EIP-1559 upgrade in 2025, part of the gas fee on every transaction has gone straight to the treasury. The treasury also collects RON every day from other sources across the ecosystem.

With RGP-1, token holders make the first decision on how that money is used. The first deployment would go to Katana, the DEX that launched to support Axie Infinity’s economy.
