In Brief:
- STEPN (official site) is rolling out STEPNEMBER5, an anniversary campaign that stretches across a full month and is structured around weekly challenges and rewards covering both STEPN and STEPN GO.
- The celebration doubles as a milestone for both apps: five years for STEPN, two for STEPN GO.
- Nothing has been shared yet on start dates, prize pools or how the challenges will work. The previous edition handed out 12 sneaker skins over four weeks and paired them with a $14,000 seed phrase hunt.
In a post on X, STEPN announced STEPNEMBER5, a month-long anniversary event structured around weekly challenges spanning STEPN and STEPN GO.
This is the annual campaign’s fifth run. “5 years of STEPN. 2 years of STEPN GO,” the post said.

In STEPN’s own words, it is “the month-long anniversary event packed with weekly challenges, community milestones, and exclusive rewards for both STEPN and STEPN GO users.” Everything runs on a weekly loop. “Every week brings a new challenge and a new chance,” the company said.
What hasn’t been announced
Left unstated were a start date, any figure for the reward pool, and the mechanics behind the weekly challenges. STEPN also stayed quiet on whether rewards will come in GMT, GGT or GGUSD, and on whether each app will have its own track.
Last year’s template
Four years of STEPN and one year of STEPN GO were the occasion for STEPNEMBER4. The centerpiece there was a set of 12 sneaker skins spread over four weeks at three per week, each nodding to a moment from crypto history, among them meme coins, all-time highs, Sam Bankman-Fried and BlackRock.
How players unlocked them changed from week to week and was divided between the two apps: minting, enhancing, burning and spending Energy.
A $14,000 seed phrase hunt ran alongside. Two wallets, one per app, sat behind a 12-word seed phrase each, and clues were scattered through the month as words, numbers and icons tucked into visuals, posts and NFT artwork. Inside each wallet was a 1/1 Genesis Sneaker along with GMT. The phrases were cracked by two players, with each prize capped at $7,000.
Around that, FSL ID released rare 1/1 Genesis Sneakers backed by a $100,000 giveaway, Game Hub introduced merch rewards, streak protection and boostable runs, and MOOAR put out two phases of Project Callisto.
Where the apps stand
The anniversary event lands with Marathon Challenge Season 3 partway through a round. Round 2 runs Aug. 24 through Sept. 7. Participants choose a stake tier — 50 GGUSD for two Energy a day, 100 GGUSD for four, or 200 GGUSD for six — and entering more than one is allowed. Complete all 14 days and the stake is returned together with APY rewards and Marathon Boxes. Skip a day and that stake is redistributed to the pool for those still in.
There’s also an optional Season Pass at 20 GGUSD covering the whole 12-week season, which layers on extra Marathon Boxes, badges and backgrounds, Starlets, GGUSD coupons and raffle mints for Marathon Sneakers. Finishing is no easier with it.
On Jan. 1, FSL cut GMT earnings in half, walking back its earlier stance that no halving system was planned. According to the team, growth meant adjusting emissions was the right call.
Several other campaigns have filled out the year. STEPN Around The World 2026 went live June 4 and had players enhance sneakers to receive randomly assigned country skins covering all 48 nations at the summer’s international football tournament, with a 500,000 GMT prize pool that expanded as teams progressed. FSL additionally teamed up with Mastercard on GMT Pay, a product that allows users to spend GMT and GGT directly.
How STEPNEMBER started
September 2022 saw the first campaign, tied to STEPN’s debut anniversary and organized around the five “Movements” the company used to define itself: health and wellness, community and social, environmentalism, financial freedom, and bridging web2 and web3.
Four weekly challenges made up that opening run, with 100,000 GMT in the total reward pool and a 20,000 GMT grand prize going to the overall winner across all four. Rankings hinged mostly on social engagement — likes, retweets, comments and shares.
“Best Running Friends Forever” closed out the 2022 edition, running Sept. 23-29.
