In Brief:
- MapleStory Universe (official site) is opening Season 2 of Vibe Camp, a program built around making brief, engaging games with AI.
- Running August 18 through September 15 on the MSU Space platform, this round arrives with a narrower design brief.
- A $15,000 prize pool paid in NXPC tokens is up for grabs across several categories.
AI-driven game design takes a step forward
Season 2 of MapleStory Universe’s AI-powered Vibe Camp is now underway, and this time the emphasis falls on compact games that hook players in quick sessions. Hosted on MSU Space, which was developed in partnership with Verse8, the event stretches from August 18 to September 15.
“Short, simple, tense” is the phrase at the heart of the new brief. Entrants are being pushed toward games that can be finished in one or two minutes, built on mechanics a player can grasp in three seconds. That real-time, arcade-flavored framing points squarely at retention and replayability.
The shift follows the inaugural Vibe Camp in June, which drew 693 submissions, drew on more than 340,000 official MapleStory assets, and racked up 88,000 gameplay sessions. The question Season 2 sets out to answer is whether those same tools can produce experiences that hold attention better.
New tools for game designers
Joining MSU Space this season is an AI Brainstorming Persona, a step beyond asset generation toward something closer to a co-designer. Creators can talk through concepts with it, stress-test mechanics, and collect feedback, all while keeping MapleStory’s lore and cast used appropriately.
The effort probes how far generative AI can go in user-generated content, reaching past the question of whether a game merely works and into design fundamentals like pacing and difficulty.
Prizes and the broader vision
The Season 2 purse is smaller at $15,000 in NXPC tokens, distributed across the main categories, a Community Choice award, and the Golden Jank award recognizing inventive gameplay.
The competition slots into MSU 2.0, the wider strategy aimed at turning MapleStory from a self-contained game into a living creator ecosystem.
