Enterprise rarely gets a spotlight. The Next Generation soaks up the affection, along with the films and the legacy sequel series that put Patrick Stewart back in Picard’s chair decades on. Reviving classic actors has become something the franchise does well, even when the results fall short of what fans wanted.
Enterprise, by contrast, tends to be skipped. A minor event here, a passing nod there, and then it goes back on the shelf.
The Terran NX Starship changes that, lifted directly from Star Trek: Enterprise and placed into Star Trek Online.
The ship belongs to Rediscovered, an in-game celebration that spans multiple series and multiple decades of the franchise. PC players get it on September 22, with console versions following later this year.
Every era gets a ship
The love is spread widely across the new roadmap. Alongside the NX, ships are coming for Academy, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Discovery, The Next Generation and Prodigy. That first wave is already rolling out and continues through February, wrapping up with Academy.
The update also brings Fleet Mod Ships, meaning endgame-ready hulls that come with customization layered on. Teasers have shown the Intrepid Class and a Defiant Class carrying new modifications, nacelle struts and a forward hull among them.
Spock turns up twice over, which is its own kind of flex. Ethan Peck reprises the role from Strange New Worlds to voice him, while Piotr Michael, who played the character in Star Trek: Undiscovered, returns as a take on Leonard Nimoy’s Spock.
The Enterprise is the grand prize, and you have to work for it
A full Strange New Worlds celebration is bundled in as well, and the Enterprise is indeed part of it. The complicated bit is actually acquiring it, since it sits inside the Starship Icons Prize Pack.
“While we’re not giving full details on this pack yet, it will give you excellent odds to win one of sixty starships. As you open packs, you can keep the prizes you won, or trade them in for higher-tier prizes. The Grand Prize is the new Enterprise.”
Whichever era you call your own, Rediscovered has something pointed your way. Factor in the mountain of quality-of-life work the game has taken on since launch, and this is a sensible point to finally install it.
Twenty-odd years on from the NX-01 being written off, it headlines as a prize ship in a roadmap that treats it like it belongs.
