Smoketail doesn’t roar, and she doesn’t need to. The Veilflame is the latest dragon to join Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. She wins fights with smoke and illusion, and the battle is often over before a single sword leaves its sheath.
The Sept. 23 update adds Smoketail to the roster of the mobile 4X strategy war game. Dragonfire launched earlier this year and has been climbing the charts with Android players since.

This dragon plays mind games
In this universe, dragons usually mean fire and fear. Smoketail’s weapon is confusion instead. The official blog post announcing her says so in its opening line.
“Smoketail , the Veilflame, has transcended the simple art of concealment,” the official blog post said.

The post says she has moved past simply covering a battlefield in smoke. She now summons phantom valleys, false armies and ghostly cries, and her enemies break before any real fighting begins. The lore then shows what that looks like on the ground.

“When Lord Wendryn’s host marched on Hornwood, they found the land twisted by visions: familiar woods turned to ash, kin whispered from the trees, and every path led only to confusion and fire. None who entered emerged unchanged. Smoketail does not roar—she unravels. Her illusions beguile, her smoke deceives, and those caught within rarely know truth from trap until it’s too late.”
Unlocking Smoketail, and what she brings
Players can claim Smoketail by entering the campaign “The Dragon’s Divide.” Her abilities pair steady fire damage with self-preservation, so she is designed to last through a fight instead of burning bright and fading early.
The blog post lists everything about her: abilities, habits, affinities and star ratings. In short, she may not be the strongest dragon in your army, but she is the most intelligent. That intelligence lets her pick out weaker enemies on the battlefield and turn a fight in your favor.
The design suits a dragon built around misdirection. In a franchise where brute force usually wins, Smoketail wins with her head.
The ambitions behind Dragonfire
Dragonfire draws lore from both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Players guide their House through conquest, diplomacy and dragon warfare. They build an empire, raise a dragon army and fight real-time battles across Westeros, all to win the Iron Throne.
The game is updated often, and new content tends to arrive faster while House of the Dragon episodes are airing. Smoketail is the latest addition in that steady flow.
Westeros is filling up your phone
Dragonfire has company. Game of Thrones: Legends, another mobile game, has done well since its 2024 launch. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, a strategy RPG, is expected some time in 2027.
None of that should come as a shock. The show wrapped in May 2019 with a finale that disappointed many viewers, but the fandom stayed. After Game of Thrones finished its eight-year run, HBO kept building out George R.R. Martin’s world with House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
For anyone who somehow missed it all, the original series adapts Martin’s still-unfinished A Song of Ice and Fire novels. It is a fantasy drama set across Westeros and Essos that follows noble families such as the Starks, Lannisters and Targaryens as they battle for the Iron Throne.
Meanwhile, a far greater threat was gathering in the North. The undead had no interest in who held the throne.
Smoketail likely wouldn’t care either. She would simply leave them wandering in circles through the ash while their own families whispered to them from the trees.
