Radeon RX 6000 owners who have had their cards since the series debuted in October 2020 are getting an upgrade at no cost. AMD has officially confirmed that FSR 4.1 will support the Radeon RX 6000 series, and the coverage runs from the 6900 class all the way down to the 6400.
Few people expected support to reach that far. When a new upscaler launches, older hardware is usually left out.
The announcement came from AMD’s Jack Huynh, who started his post on a personal note. “As a lifelong gamer, I think deeply about how to make gaming better and more accessible for everyone across consoles, desktops, laptops, handhelds, and the developers who build the games,” Huynh said.

He put the RX 6000 update at the top of his list. “FSR 4.1 is coming to Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. Tuned and optimized from the 6900 series down to the 6400 class,” Huynh said.
The cards in scope
There are a lot of RX 6000 models. The lineup includes the RX 6500 XT, RX 6600, RX 6600 XT and RX 6650 XT, plus the high-end RX 6700, RX 6700 XT, RX 6750 XT, RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, RX 6900 XT and RX 6950 XT.
Since AMD says “from the 6900 series down to the 6400 class,” it appears the entire range is included. AMD hasn’t released results for individual cards yet, so nobody knows how much the cheaper models will benefit.

For anyone new to it, FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) relies on machine learning to sharpen in-game images and lift overall performance, so frame rates go up.
A first for APUs
Integrated graphics are the bigger surprise. “For the first time, FSR 4.1 is coming to APUs,” Huynh said.
AMD was precise about which chips qualify. It listed “All Gorgon Halo and Strix Halo for your mini desktops and mobile workstations,” “All Gorgon and Strix Ryzen 9 for your laptops” and “All Z2E and Z2A for your handhelds and for gamers on the go.”
Other APUs aren’t included yet. “And don’t worry, we are working hard to bring FSR to more APUs in the future,” Huynh said. Laptop owners whose chip is missing from the list will have to wait.
Xbox gets support as well
Microsoft's hardware is also getting FSR 4.1. “FSR 4.1 is coming to @XBOX. Optimized for @ASUS_ROG Xbox handhelds and Xbox Series X | S,” Huynh said.
That means the upscaler is expanding on two fronts: back to older PC graphics cards and over to consoles and handhelds.
Huynh described the move in terms of reach. “We power over a billion gaming devices around the world. It’s a responsibility we care deeply about,” he said.
Other changes
Several smaller updates arrived alongside the RX 6000 news. Huynh said FSR Redstone now runs in more than 400 games on Radeon 9000 series graphics cards.
FSR Frame Generation now has more consistent frame pacing, which AMD said results in smoother gameplay. More games are also getting Ray Regeneration.
FSR support for Vulkan is on the way too, and Huynh called it “Another way for developers to bring it into their games.” An upscaler is only useful once developers build it into the games people actually play, so this matters.
Beyond calling it coming soon, AMD hasn’t set a date for the RX 6000 rollout. Huynh ended with “We’re still building.” Anyone using an RX 6600 or RX 6700 XT should watch for driver updates in the coming weeks.
