Golden Guardians Survivor OVERTAKE, the web3 games publisher behind Golden Guardians: Survivor, has officially ended the game's service as of June 27.

OVERTAKE, the web3 games publisher behind Golden Guardians: Survivor, has officially ended the game’s service as of June 27.

The announcement was shared on the game’s Discord server, confirming the shutdown of the Telegram-based survival shooter and the preservation of all associated $TAKE token rewards through the OVERTAKE Launchpool system.

Players can no longer access the game or any in-game data following the closure. However, the development team emphasized that $TAKE rewards tied to gameplay performance have been safely secured. The community was encouraged to enjoy the final moments before the shutdown, marking the end of a campaign that once drew strong interest through its blockchain-based incentives.

Launched During GameFest with High Hopes

Golden Guardians: Survivor was introduced in late 2024 as part of OVERTAKE’s GameFest campaign, a promotional event designed to spotlight web3 games with tokenized rewards. The game combined casual shooter mechanics with blockchain features, such as an airdrop system and reward tracking, making it one of the more accessible entries in the growing Telegram gaming scene.

Players controlled characters in a top-down arena where they fought off zombies and bosses. Six characters were available, though only one was free, with others unlocked through Telegram Stars or crypto purchases. The game featured an internal currency, $GG, which could be converted into achievement points (gAP) and used to claim $TAKE tokens via airdrops.

One of its most successful moments came during Season 2, when five million $TAKE were distributed to high-performing users.

OVERTAKE’s Blockchain Gaming Strategy

As a publisher, OVERTAKE focuses on casual web3 gaming experiences that integrate token rewards and digital ownership. Built on Immutable’s blockchain infrastructure, the games offer gas-free transactions and scalable asset systems. Golden Guardians: Survivor was a core title in OVERTAKE’s strategy, showing how mini-games on platforms like Telegram could include decentralized finance elements.

The game also served as an experimental model for large-scale airdrops in messaging-based games, attempting to make blockchain gaming more accessible to mainstream users.

Part of a Growing List of Web3 Game Closures

The end of Golden Guardians: Survivor adds to a growing list of blockchain games shutting down. Recent closures include Ember Sword, Nyan Heroes, Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates, Wonder Wars, and the upcoming shutdown of Blast Royale. These cancellations highlight the pressure on web3 gaming studios, many of which are struggling with limited funding and shifting user interest.

While OVERTAKE has not confirmed plans for a replacement title, the company’s focus on integrating blockchain into casual games is expected to continue.
