Sugar Gaming Studios has officially launched Sugar Match, a new blockchain-powered puzzle game built on Tezos Layer-2 Etherlink.

Announced on August 26, the release marks the studio’s first major Web3 title after raising $1 million in funding earlier this year. Marketed as “Candy Crush meets Web3,” the game introduces real-time multiplayer match-3 mechanics with competitive features and skill-based rewards.

Gameplay Designed for Competition

Unlike traditional mobile puzzle games, Sugar Match offers a three-player battle format. Competitors face off across five timed rounds using identical puzzle boards.

Players score points in real time and can use boosters to disrupt opponents, multiply points, or defend their position. The winner is the highest scorer, turning a casual puzzle genre into a strategic, high-stakes experience.

Integration of Web3 Without Barriers

The studio emphasized that Sugar Match was created with a “fun first, blockchain second” philosophy. CEO Nikolay Mitev said the aim is to make a game that feels familiar to mobile puzzle fans while benefiting from blockchain features running seamlessly in the background.

The game runs on Etherlink, which manages the blockchain side without interfering in the player experience.

Economy and Token Utility

The game uses a dual-token system. Players earn gCNDY during matches, which can be converted into CNDY, the project’s tradable token. CNDY is already listed on exchanges including MEXC, IguanaDEX, and Uniswap.

To bridge gameplay with token trading, Sugarverse has also launched a dedicated swap portal at swap.sugarverse.io.

Strong Support From Etherlink

Efe Kucuk, Head of Gaming at Trilitech, said the launch highlights the strengths of Etherlink’s infrastructure. He noted that players can focus fully on gameplay because the blockchain technology operates smoothly in the background, without creating friction for users.

Available Now on Mobile

Sugar Match is now available on both iOS and Android. It is the first of five planned titles in Sugarverse’s gaming roadmap, all designed to combine accessible gameplay with sustainable tokenized economies.

With a successful closed beta earlier this year and more than 60 million lifetime players across its wider portfolio, the studio is positioning Sugar Match as a major step forward in Web3 gaming.
