New Beginnings in Game Publishing
YGG Play has finalized a crucial publishing partnership with the animation and gaming studio Ruyui to host the soulslike pixel-art RPG, Roots of Embervault, on its digital Launchpad. This collaboration is set to usher in the game’s quests feature rollout on Thursday, May 14 at 8 p.m. SGT.
Strategic Expansion and Audience Engagement
Focused chiefly on expanding user bases and targeting international markets, particularly the APAC region, this partnership marks significant strategic moves by both entities. YGG, with its vast community exceeding 100,000 players, will play a pivotal role in introducing the game to a wider market while maintaining the game’s unique cultural and gaming nuances through meticulous localization strategies.
Game Metrics and Features
Roots of Embervault has achieved notable financial success, generating $38,000 in revenue from a solid base of 1,500 monthly active users, reporting a 46% retention rate. The game blends challenging soulslike mechanics with charming pixel art, offering a unique gaming experience. Moreover, it features innovative game elements, such as the Abstract Runes, allowing players to enhance their gaming experience by burning in-game items to earn rewards, fostering a dynamic participation-driven economic loop.
Partner Perspectives
Petek, the co-founder of Ruyui Studios, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, specifically highlighting the benefit of IP retention, which is often relinquished in traditional publishing models. “Our ambition is to build Ruyui into one of the most recognizable IPs in the world,” Petek noted. “YGG Play stood out because they help games scale and reach new audiences while allowing studios like ours to retain ownership of the IP they’re building.”
Similarly, YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon shared his optimism about the game’s potential, emphasizing that “Roots of Embervault” fits perfectly into the type of engaging, skill-rewarding games their community desires. “There’s a big opportunity to bring its story to our community in APAC, where players value games that reward actual skill,” Dizon explained.
Looking Ahead
As Ruyui and YGG Play move forward, extensive localization work is already in progress. This effort aims to refine the game’s lore and gameplay, making Roots of Embervault accessible and enjoyable to a broader audience beyond its current English-speaking players. The integration into the YGG Launchpad will also enhance the player experience by adding quest-based rewards that encourage active engagement and skillful progression.
Led by the visionary duo, Petek and Yan, Ruyui is setting the stage for Roots of Embervault to captivate a global audience. Meanwhile, YGG continues to innovate in the gaming space since its inception in the Philippines in 2020, consistently supporting and promoting gaming excellence across the globe.
