Capcom’s dinosaur-infested survival horror is making a return. Dino Crisis 2, which first appeared on PlayStation 1 back in 2000, is joining the PlayStation Plus catalog twenty-six years later, where it will be playable on both PS5 and PS4.

Naturally, there’s a condition attached, and it’s probably the one you expected. Only Premium tier members get it at no additional cost. Anyone on Essential or Extra will need to upgrade to gain access.

The announcement came from Sony during the September State of Play, where the game’s addition to the service was highlighted. A precise release date hasn’t been given. Sony’s word is that it will show up on PS Plus Premium sometime in 2026.

Three other games are joining the catalog

Dino Crisis 2 won’t be making the trip by itself. In total, four titles are on their way to PS Plus, and a few of them are far newer.

September was given as the window for Mega Man X: Command Mission. Meanwhile, the original Ratchet & Clank and Mycopunk were both slated for later in the year.

Call it what it is: not a remaster, not a remake, and not a re-release in the sense those terms are normally used. What’s happening here is a classic being placed inside a modern subscription library — preservation of a different sort.

The PS1 back catalog keeps resurfacing

There’s been a steady trickle of older titles making their way to PS5. The PS1 game Geppy-X turned up on PlayStation 5 earlier this year, remastered by the studio Bliss Brain. Prior to that, Limited Run Games brought six classic Rugrats titles into the modern PlayStation ecosystem.

The original Dino Crisis paved the way, having been added to PlayStation Plus several years ago. With the sequel now on the list, both mainline entries in the series will be playable on current hardware — and Premium subscribers pay nothing extra for either one.

If you’ve never played one

Picture Resident Evil, except dinosaurs have taken the place of the zombies hunting you down. Are there other distinctions? Of course. But that comparison still does the job.

Fans of classic Resident Evil, in particular, are very likely to click with both Dino Crisis games.

A rough stretch for PlayStation, minus the services

Plenty of controversy has followed PlayStation recently, a good deal of it stemming from the company’s announcement that it will stop producing physical game discs going forward. Its services, on the other hand, continue to deliver.

Booting up a PS1 title from 2000 on a PS5 is a small and very particular kind of joy — and more of it is on the way.
