In Brief:
- By leaning on custom chains for better performance, Avalanche has carved out a role as a home base for high-ambition blockchain games.
- The five titles that stand out are DeFi Kingdoms (official site), MapleStory Universe (official site), Gladiator Mayhem (official site), GhostM Global (official site) and Off The Grid (official site).
- Each one taps dedicated infrastructure to fine-tune how gameplay and transactions feel, which is pulling in player attention.
Avalanche’s blockchain gaming ambition
Avalanche is fast becoming a key player in blockchain gaming, with a lineup of titles that each run on their own purpose-built chain. Speed and ownership both benefit from the setup, and developers get room to shape their games without the constraints that come with shared networks.
DeFi Kingdoms
DeFi Kingdoms runs on DFK Chain, an Avalanche subnet the team built alongside Ava Labs. Styled in pixel art, the game centers on Heroes who set out on quests to collect resources. Those Heroes sit at the heart of the experience: they are summoned with Power Tokens and gain levels through modes such as Void Hunt and the DFK Colosseum.
MapleStory Universe
MapleStory Universe, from Nexon, is built on the Henesys chain, a further example of dedicated Avalanche architecture. The game holds on to the familiar 2D side-scrolling look while layering in deep progression and a two-token economy split between NESO and NXPC. As of May 2026 it had logged 3.8 million registered accounts and more than 150 million on-chain transactions.
Gladiator Mayhem
Gladiator Mayhem, developed by Lightning Forge Games, is a 2v2 brawler now in open alpha on several platforms. Its distinctive LFG Agent system lets players interact with AI companions trained on real match data. An update released on June 1, 2026 tightened balance and cleared out bugs.
GhostM Global
Mgame has brought back a cult favourite with GhostM Global, which operates on NUMINE, a bespoke Avalanche subnet. Six character classes are on offer, each opening up different styles of combat. The title recently took Best RPG at the PlayToEarn Blockchain Game Awards 2025, and a significant class update arrived in April 2026.
Off The Grid
Gunzilla Games released Off The Grid, a free to play cyberpunk shooter, on GUNZ, its own custom Avalanche layer one. The extraction royale action plays out on Teardrop Island, where loot and combat take priority. Blockchain features are optional in certain versions, and a substantial performance patch landed on July 10, 2026, ahead of the full launch set for October.
Taken together, and built on infrastructure tailored to each one, these titles show how seriously Avalanche is pushing blockchain gaming forward and sharpening the experience for players.
