Axie Infinity and Ronin Co-founder Jeff Jiho‘s Personal Crypto Wallets Hacked for $9.7 Million
Approximately $9.7 million worth of Ethereum was stolen from wallets on the Ronin network, with the funds being transferred through the Tornado Cash mixer. Jeff Jiho Zirlin, the co-founder of Ronin and NFT game Axie Infinity, confirmed the hack of his personal crypto wallet for $9.7 million, which was sent to three Ethereum wallets. Security firms PeckShield and Webacy reported that about 3,248 ETH was stolen from Ronin network wallets and then funneled through Tornado Cash to obscure their final destinations.
Zirlin expressed his regret over the attack on Twitter, stating that the compromised addresses were limited to his personal accounts and had no impact on the validation or operations of the Ronin chain. He assured the community that strict security measures are in place for all chain-related activities and thanked everyone for their support during this challenging time.
In a separate tweet, fellow Sky Mavis co-founder Aleksander “Psycheout” Larsen confirmed that the attack was unrelated to the Ronin Network’s security or the security of its Ethereum bridge. Ethereum is currently trading at $2,923 and has experienced a 3% decrease. The value of Ronin tokens (RON) has fluctuated significantly in the past month, with a peak of $3.49 before dropping to $2.40 and then rising again to $2.97.
With the ongoing developments in the crypto world, investors and users are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their assets.
