Just four days on from Xbox taking PHYSINT off PlayStation’s hands, the head of Xbox was in the Kojima Productions office, posing for a photo alongside the man himself.
That is the entire story — and it carries more weight than it first appears.
What changed on Sept. 10
Word landed that day that PlayStation would not, in the end, be bankrolling Kojima Productions’ next major title. Publishing duties have gone to Xbox instead.
PHYSINT — the action-espionage project Hideo Kojima has been working toward, and the one broadly regarded as the spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid — now sits beneath the Xbox umbrella.
For a game that spent its earliest days tied to Sony, that is a considerable pivot. And it isn’t the only Kojima title carrying Xbox’s name.
The photos, and the one that matters
Asha Sharma stopped by the Kojima Productions offices and posed with the creator. Resharing Kojima’s post, she wrote: “Working day with @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN and team on OD, PHYSINT and the future.”
Give that final clause another look. OD, PHYSINT “and the future.” Phrasing like that doesn’t slip into a photo caption by chance.
Kojima kept his own post brief. “With @asha_shar,” he wrote. He followed it with: “Asha also signed our signboard. Thank you so much 🙏🙇🏻🫶 @asha_shar”
Something on a screen
One shot in the batch is pulling more weight than the others. It looks as though Kojima showed Sharma a piece of what he has in the works — both are captured watching something in particular, and their reaction is one of clear excitement.
What was on the display goes unmentioned. PHYSINT, OD, the future — your guess is as good as anyone’s.
Two games, one publisher
Keep in mind: alongside PHYSINT, Kojima also has OD in development, once again with Xbox involved. The studio’s two announced projects therefore fall to the same publisher — and that publisher’s chief executive just made the trip to sign the signboard hanging on the wall.
