After a tumultuous legal dispute between Dutch developer Gamedia and blockchain game company Gala Games, the Central District Court of California has ruled in favor of Gamedia due to lack of jurisdiction.
The controversy surrounding Gala Games has been ongoing for over a year, stemming from issues such as a token fork and burn in May 2023. The burn was reportedly conducted to render tokens allegedly stolen by Gala co-founder Wright Thurston worthless amidst a lawsuit between Thurston and Eric Schiermeyer.
Gamedia, which was collaborating with Gala on the launch of “Spider Tanks,” raised concerns about Gala’s failure to fulfill commitments, including funding, promotion, and publishing support. The developer claimed that Gala had fired, bullied, or sued many of its co-founders, shareholders, and employees.
Despite Gala’s expansion into film and music ventures, Gamedia felt neglected in terms of support and revenue payments. After unsuccessful attempts to address these issues with Gala, Gamedia decided to withdraw from further investment in the game, leading to legal action from Gala.
The future of Gamedia’s PC brawler Spider Tanks, one of the first titles in the Gala gaming ecosystem, remains uncertain. Speculation suggests that the game may resurface on another blockchain platform.
