In Brief:
- Gigaverse (official site) has kicked off The Awakening, an event built around collecting Hard Cores, opening with a prize pot of $20,000.
- That pot grows over the course of the event via juice sales and marketplace fees, giving players a reason to stay active.
- Whatever players earn will carry over into Gigaverse Online, the title lined up to succeed the current browser dungeon RPG.
Gigaverse debuts The Awakening event
The Awakening is now live in Gigaverse, a running event built around collectible Hard Cores and seeded with a $20,000 prize pot that grows the more players engage. Every juice sale and every marketplace transaction made while the event runs sends half of its value straight into the prize.
For players, this changes the calculus. The Awakening is not just another seasonal content drop — it is groundwork for Gigaverse Online, the upcoming open world social RPG that is meant to take over from the browser dungeon RPG running today. Anything picked up in this window keeps its use later on, whether as crafting material or as a directly usable item, smoothing the handover into the new seasonal economy.
Implications for player strategy
The studio is aiming at long-term sustainability and an audience that reaches past the usual crypto crowd. With Gigaverse Online only months out from launch, the event is deliberately built to pull players in now, since assets held today are expected to travel forward. Loot mechanics are set to change, and anyone who makes the most of The Awakening may end up sitting on in-game resources worth considerably more.
Work on ROMs 2.0 is progressing in parallel, though the studio has not said what it will do or how existing ROM assets will be handled.
Gameplay elements
Gigaverse runs in the browser as a free-to-play RPG with NFT integration. Combat between characters is built on a rock-paper-scissors framework that stacks strategic decisions on top of one another. Each player starts out with 12 HP and 2 Armor; Sword beats Spell, Spell beats Shield, and Shield beats Sword.
The dungeons do not go easy on anyone: there are no checkpoints, so a run means pushing from Floor 1 until HP hits zero. Along the way players pick up Dungeon Scraps, an XP currency, plus assorted collectibles. A daily energy cap governs how much can be played, handing out roughly 240 energy — enough for six runs. Buying juice extends that, and those purchases feed The Awakening’s prize pool directly.
Giga ROM NFTs sit on top of all that, granting energy boosts and resource claims. ROM trading happens through the Gigamarket, and an open API leaves the door open for integrations.
Gigaverse currently sits at number 72 on PlayToEarn, with a score that reflects a 252.79 percent increase.
