Immutable has announced a new partnership with Dutch game studio GAMEDIA, a developer with nearly two decades of experience in multiplayer titles.
While the official title has not been named, the teaser video included in the announcement showed unmistakable gameplay footage from Spider Tanks, sparking speculation of a comeback.
Hints Point to Spider Tanks
The footage featured explosive arena battles and tank combat reminiscent of the PvP brawler Spider Tanks, originally built by GAMEDIA in collaboration with Gala Games. Fans quickly began to connect the dots, with many expecting that Spider Tanks could soon reappear under Immutable’s growing web3 ecosystem.
Background of the Fallout with Gala Games
Spider Tanks was first developed as a blockchain esports game, featuring NFT tank parts and a play-to-earn economy. However, the partnership between GAMEDIA and Gala Games soured over time. In a detailed statement published in May 2024, GAMEDIA revealed that it had been forced to handle responsibilities such as marketing campaigns and promotional events after Gala shifted its focus to other industries.
The Dutch studio also accused Gala of withholding promised reinvestments and placing the burden of growth on the community.
The situation escalated into a legal dispute when Gala attempted to claim ownership of the Spider Tanks IP. By September 2024, a U.S. court dismissed the lawsuit, leaving the IP with GAMEDIA. Since then, the studio had remained quiet until recent hints of a partnership with Immutable began to surface.
Immutable Expands Its Web3 Library
Immutable has been steadily growing its lineup of web3 titles, with projects such as Ubisoft’s Might & Magic reboot and Habbo X. The addition of GAMEDIA strengthens its position as a platform for established studios transitioning into blockchain-powered games.
A Possible Fresh Start for Spider Tanks
While neither company has officially confirmed Spider Tanks’ return, the heavy presence of its gameplay in the teaser makes a revival highly likely. If confirmed, this could give the once-promising title a second chance to thrive under a new publisher that is actively focused on web3 gaming.
Fans of multiplayer action and blockchain-powered competition are now waiting to see whether Spider Tanks will officially make its way back to life on Immutable Play.
