In Brief:
- Kintara (official site) has released The Merchant’s Debt, a murder-mystery update that starts with the death of the game’s Traveling Merchant.
- A Constable’s Cap goes to the first 100 players who crack the case.
- Eight buff dishes, 43 achievements, weekly goals, Frostmere monsters and tool upgrades the studio said “pay off” also arrive with the update.
The Traveling Merchant in Kintara is dead, and players are now the ones investigating.
The Merchant’s Debt is the newest content drop for the Solana MMO. Its studio revealed the update in a post on X from the @PlayKintara account, writing: “The Traveling Merchant is dead, and the Constable doesn’t believe it was a robbery.”

At the end of the post, the studio put the question to players: who did it?
The first 100 solvers get a cap
The Constable’s Cap is limited to the first 100 players who solve the mystery. Kintara’s post gave no details on how answers are submitted or when the case will close.
There was also no word on whether the cap can be traded or whether it does anything beyond filling a cosmetic slot. Limited and capped cosmetics have appeared in Kintara before: its Halloween event brought Haunted Chests, limited cosmetics and rare Zombie Mask drops.
The rest of the update
The mystery is only one part of the patch. Kintara also listed eight new buff dishes, which feed into the cooking loop where players gather ingredients, cook them, then sell or bank the results.
Players get 43 new achievements, plus weekly goals that sit above the daily quests the game already has. Those dailies cover woodcutting, mining, fishing, combat and other skills, reset every 24 hours, and reward gold, XP and the occasional badge.
New monsters are coming to Frostmere too, though the post didn’t list their names, stats or drop tables.
The final entry reads “Tools that pay off.” Kintara didn’t say which tools were changed or what the payoff looks like.
Where the merchant came from
Players have met the Traveling Merchant before. A Merchant Cycle arrived in version 3.6, in the same update as Apartments and a multi-page banking system.
A later Traveling Merchant rollout added two ways to earn gold, one of them a guaranteed daily Personal Gold claim tied to a player’s $KINS holdings. That system also let players reclaim materials from losing entries, and a 5% resource tax is burned permanently.
Because players already know the character, his death gives the update a familiar starting point. The post didn’t say whether the merchant’s gold mechanics will change with him gone.
Background
Kintara is a browser-based isometric MMO that launched on May 22, 2026. Players explore, gather, fish, fight and trade, earning $KINS through the in-game economy. Gold covers quests, shop purchases, cosmetics and most trades between players, with $KINS, the Solana token, layered on top.
The game arrived on the Solana dApp Store for Seeker owners in August. Version 5.9 followed on Aug. 29, 2026, opening free-to-play access with sign-in via email, Google, Discord, X, Passkey or Solana Mobile Wallet Adapter.
Kintara has had a busy October. Ahead of The Merchant’s Debt, the studio announced the Sunken Isles, the game’s first open-water biome, along with its first ranged weapon.
The announcement closed on the question the studio wants players to answer: “Who did”
