Launch of Lattice’s Redstone mainnet and debut of its initial games

Lattice's Redstone mainnet and its first games launch

French developer Lattice has officially launched its L2 blockchain Redstone mainnet after a year of development. The Redstone mainnet is an Ethereum L2 based on the Optimism OP Stack, serving as the underlying protocol for various fully onchain games and autonomous worlds. These fully onchain games store all game logic on the blockchain to enhance robustness, composability, and infinite composition, unlike traditional web3 games with optional blockchain features.

Industry experts foresee fully onchain games as the future of web3 gaming, despite their current clunky operation. Lattice’s two-week community spotlight campaign showcases projects deployed on Redstone, including “Sky Strife,” a real-time turn-based strategy game where players compete on islands to be the last settlement standing. The development of “Sky Strife” inspired Lattice to build the Redstone infrastructure for cost-efficient deployment of fully onchain games.

Additionally, autonomous world “Downstream,” described as the “world’s first Post Singularity Civilisation Simulator,” has launched on the network, with a daily spotlight scheduled for May 10th. “Biomes,” a Minecraft-inspired sandbox platform allowing players to create, mine, and craft items, has also gone live on the network. Players can join “Biomes” games through various quests provided by the onchain quest generator ggQuest.

On May 21st, Icelandic PC game developer CCP Games will start its closed playtest of fully onchain “EVE Online” game “Project Awakening,” built using Lattice’s MUD framework. CCP aims to create an open-source, community-driven game with infinite possibilities. Other games launching alongside the Redstone mainnet include the revamped “DF Ares,” ARPA-incubated mobile game “DEAR,” Small Brain Games’ “Words3,” and “This Cursed Machine.”
