Moonray Studios, the creators of the popular PC action game Moonray, have recently announced their expansion into the console market with an upcoming release for PlayStation 5. This marks a significant step for the company as it aims to broaden its gaming ecosystem and reach console players. Originally a PC exclusive, Moonray is also set to expand its presence with a new auto-battler mobile game scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025.
The initial PC version of Moonray launched its alpha on the Epic Games Store in July, introducing players to its dynamic combat and multiplayer arena. The game, known for its engaging 4v4, 8-man deathmatches, and duel modes, encourages players to master melee combat and climb the leaderboards. Rewards such as new character skins further incentivize players to enhance their gaming skills.
In addition to gaming, Moonray Studios has ventured into other media forms, enriching the Moonray universe with graphic novels such as “Mother’s Skin” and “Echoes of Ascension.” Authored by Eisner Award-winning artist Brandon Graham, these novels are available widely, including in major stores like Midtown Comics and Barnes & Noble. Looking forward, the studio is collaborating with animation studio ReelFX to bring Moonray to life through animated series, broadening their storytelling mediums.
While the PlayStation version’s release date is still unknown, Moonray Studios anticipates revealing more details in the coming months.
“I’m so excited we will introduce Moonray to a whole new audience of gamers!” says Hans Andersson, CBO and co-founder of Moonray Studios. “As a huge fan of arena combat games, I truly hope that Moonray can inspire players to try more games in the genre and that it encourages game devs to make more of them, too”.
The expansion into console gaming, coupled with ventures in mobile gaming and animation, underscores Moonray Studios’ ambitious strategy to diversify and deepen user engagement across various platforms. This strategic move is timely, considering the recent launch of similar games on PlayStation 5, highlighting a growing trend of integrating diverse gaming experiences into console platforms.
