For months, Nintendo said next to nothing about the Ocarina of Time remake. Then one of its own storefronts, in Australia, slapped a price on it.
A post on X earlier today captured the Australian Nintendo Store showing the game discounted to $94.95 AUD, against a full price of $109.95 AUD. Nothing has appeared on the eStore so far. Still, with those figures public, working out the rest of the world is straightforward.
What that means for your region
Reverse-engineer the Australian listing and UK buyers land at £49.99, while the US figure comes to $59.99. Hardly stunning, but a fair few people had hoped for something cheaper, this being a remake of an N64 title.
Keep in mind that these are digital figures. Physical editions could run higher, and that’s precisely the thread commenters on X started tugging on.
One wrote:
“Will probably be 59.99 at Walmart and Amazon for physical.”
Someone else ran the numbers and wasn’t thrilled with the result:
“remember everyone that digital eshop prices are $10 less than what the physical games are, so they might be intending this game to be the scale of a $70 game”
And then there’s the guy who’s already made peace with it:
“Wow. I expected $80. This would be great. I’d buy a $100 special edition if they made it tbh”
We still barely know what this game is
June was when the remake got its announcement, and anticipation has sat at an all-time high ever since. Long before Nintendo made it official, fans had been predicting one, so the confirmation arrived as sweet satisfaction for the beloved franchise’s audience.
The sum total of what’s been shown is a short cinematic narrated by Brian Cox. Nothing more.
Which leaves the big questions unanswered. Will this be a faithful one-to-one remake? Will it take creative risks, pile on extra content, introduce new gameplay mechanics? Nintendo isn’t saying.
The Direct is hours away
Later today, at 10am ET or 4pm CEST, The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct goes live, and that’s where the remake gets its showing. A firm release date looks all but guaranteed. The real prize, though, is content and gameplay, however much of it they’re willing to show.
A standard Nintendo Direct follows tomorrow, which could deliver a few more treats to round off 2026. Perhaps more N64 classics handed new leases on life. One can only hope.
