OpenAI has doubled the Work and Codex quotas on its Pro 100 and Pro 500 plans. Subscribers don’t need to opt in. Current customers already have the higher limits, and anyone signing up now gets them from the start.

The Pro 200 tier gets a messier version of the deal. OpenAI doubled the lower quota on that plan and also dropped a cut it had been planning, following pushback from users.

The Plus plan doesn’t change, so subscribers there get nothing new.

Double the quota doesn’t mean double the output

OpenAI’s fine print tempers the news. The company said a doubled quota won’t translate into twice as many finished tasks, because consumption depends on the model, the type of task and the settings used.

That means the real reach of the new limits comes down to which model you choose and how heavily you use it. A demanding Codex session will drain the quota at a different rate than a quick Work request.

None of this applies to the new “Dots.” Their expanded limits remain for the time being, and OpenAI counts Dot usage separately from the main quotas.

OpenAI is counting on efficiency to cover the cost

The company said it will keep releasing better models and efficiency improvements to raise the capacity users can actually work with. OpenAI says its latest releases, the 6.1 models Terra and Sol, are much more efficient and match or outperform the models that came before them.

The timing is hard to miss. Anthropic is getting ready for its IPO, and the two companies are fighting hard for B2B dominance in AI. Pro 100 and Pro 500 users walk away with twice the Work and Codex allotment, and Pro 200 users no longer face the cut they had been expecting.
