This will cater to both on-chain (NFT to NFT) and off-chain (NFT to goods, services, or experiences) exchanges. To showcase the concept, OpenSea has also rolled out a proof-of-concept NFT, available for minting and redemption on their platform.
Redeemable NFTs offer a unique value that can be exchanged for another item, either on-chain or off-chain. OpenSea is releasing Ethereum Requests for Comment (ERC-7496 and ERC-7498) along with two Seaport Improvement Proposals (SIP-14 and SIP-15) to bolster the redeemable NFT ecosystem. - Milestone 2: The focus will shift to on-chain redeemables and trait redemptions. A new design will let users change traits on an NFT without burning the original NFT, allowing multiple redeemables for a single NFT.
- Milestone 3: OpenSea aims to simplify off-chain redemptions for creators by extending on-chain redemption standards. They’re also considering partnerships for no-code solutions, making it seamless for creators to provide off-chain redemptions.
