Paris Saint-Germain has partnered with blockchain data company Matchain to launch PlayerID, a next-generation platform designed to change how professional athlete data is handled.
A New Era for Athlete Data Management
PlayerID creates a secure digital identity for each athlete, collecting their career data into one AI-powered platform. This system enables athletes to manage their own data, granting access to different stakeholders like coaches, analysts, and agents as needed. One of the core ideas behind the platform is giving athletes full ownership and control over their data — a major shift from traditional systems where data is often siloed or controlled by teams and leagues.
By using PlayerID, agents and clubs gain access to high-quality performance insights that can help them plan player development strategies more effectively. The platform includes tools for evaluating progress, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and making better decisions around training and career moves.
Another key benefit of PlayerID is the way it connects different departments within a sports organization. Performance data, medical updates, and commercial insights can be shared more easily between teams, creating smoother workflows and more unified strategies across sporting and business operations.
PlayerID also includes predictive features that use data analysis to anticipate performance outcomes and injury risks. This helps staff make better training plans and reduce chances of physical setbacks.
The platform was initially developed for internal use at Paris Saint-Germain but is expected to be rolled out to the wider sports world. It reflects a growing trend in professional sports to use data more responsibly and efficiently — not only to boost performance but also to protect player health and career longevity.
Par Helgosson, Head of PSG Labs, said: “With PSG Labs, we’re not just adopting innovation – we’re co-creating it with the best partners in the industry. PlayerID is a concrete example of how data and technology can responsibly support athletic performance and career growth.”
