The creators of the popular Ethereum farming game Pixels have unveiled their latest venture, Pixel Dungeons, a play-to-earn dungeon crawler available on the Ronin gaming network.
Gameplay and Features
Pixel Dungeons introduces a competitive, fast-paced environment where players have a two-minute window to navigate through dungeon challenges.
The gameplay involves mining PIXEL tokens, using TNT to clear obstacles and defeat goblins, and evading lava traps. Additionally, players can engage in strategic play by sabotaging rivals to seize their collected treasures.
Developed in collaboration with Crack and Stack, this game marks the Pixels team’s first publishing agreement with an external studio, signifying a strategic expansion of their gaming portfolio.
The game’s integration into the Pixels ecosystem ensures that the PIXEL token remains at the core of the transactional activities, fostering a unified economic environment across multiple games.
Strategic Growth and Token Utilization
Luke Barwikowski, Pixels’s founder and CEO, emphasized the PIXEL token’s strategic use across their gaming platforms. “The PIXEL token is central to everything we build, allowing players to earn and use tokens across an ecosystem of games,” stated Barwikowski. This approach enhances player engagement and bolsters the token’s utility and circulation within the gaming community.
Operating on the Ethereum sidechain Ronin, Pixels itself continues to show robust engagement metrics, with approximately 200,000 monthly active spenders. In November alone, the game distributed about 22 million PIXEL tokens, equivalent to around $5 million, with players reinvesting roughly half of these earnings back into the game ecosystem.
The closed beta for Pixel Dungeons launched this Monday, with access tiers based on players’ reputation scores in Pixels. Those with a score above 3,000 gain early access to both free and premium game maps, providing an incentive for consistent and skilled gameplay.
