I’m the kind of player who can burn an entire evening in a character creator. That habit doesn’t switch off even in Red Dead Redemption 2, where Rockstar gives you a set protagonist in Arthur Morgan. I still make sure his haircut, beard and clothes always look perfect.
That makes it easy to see why Red Dead Online still holds on to so many players. You create your own outlaw from nothing and then outfit them however you like from a huge selection of cosmetics. Rockstar Games keeps restocking that wardrobe with new pieces and returning ones. It’s a big reason the game and its online mode are still running eight years on.
Moonshine is the theme this month
Every month brings a fresh set of Red Dead Online events from Rockstar. From September into October, the spotlight is on Moonshiner Bonuses. The lineup includes emotes, returning limited-time clothing, 3X RDO$ and XP on the Featured Series, and more.

In Rockstar’s words, the frontier’s “cities, towns, and outlying fortifications” are “craving the harder stuff.” In practice, the deal is simple. For the whole month, Moonshiner Sales pay out 3X RDO$, Role XP and XP. The tripled rewards and other bonuses also cover Moonshiner Story Missions, Free Roam Missions and more.

Free rewards just for logging in
Some rewards only ask you to turn up. Each week you log into Red Dead Online, you’ll receive unique gifts. The event ends in early October, and two more rewards are still available before it does.

The Featured Series follows the same pattern. Most of this month’s events are already over, but two remain, and each one awards 3X RDO$ and XP.
Limited-edition hats make a comeback
Lapsed players, this part is for you. Several limited-edition clothing items are back in stores this month: the Chambliss Corset, Charro Jacket, Leavitt Jacket, Lister Hat and Owanjila Hat. If you didn’t get them the first time, here’s another shot.
Rockstar has also brought another Community-Inspired outfit to Red Dead Online. Its pieces are for sale in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalog until Oct. 5.
That covers everything for September and early October. These freebies disappear as soon as the next event begins, so grab them while you can. As for me, I’ll be at the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. counter picking up a hat my outlaw definitely doesn’t need.
