Ronin teases a new Pixels chapter and leaves out every detail

ronin teases a new pixels chapter and leaves out every detail In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Ronin announced that Pixels (official site) is heading into its next chapter on the back of the game’s multiple awards, but attached no date, no feature list and no chapter number.
  • The game switched to Ronin in February 2024, and its developer subsequently claimed it had crossed 1 million daily active users.
  • The teaser arrives three months after Ronin finished migrating off an Ethereum sidechain and onto an OP Stack layer 2.

Ronin says a new Pixels chapter is coming, hanging the tease on the game’s awards record.

“After earning multiple Game Awards, Pixels is entering its next chapter!” the network posted on X.

After earning multiple Game Awards, Pixels is entering its next chapter!

And that is the entire announcement. The chapter went unnamed, no date was offered, and not one feature was listed. Nothing in the way of a blog post accompanied the message.

What a chapter has meant so far

Pixels releases its updates in numbered chapters, and every one of them has reworked a sizeable slice of the economy instead of simply layering on extra content.

June 17, 2024 brought Chapter 2. It overhauled resource generation and player earnings, steered the loop toward skill-based play, introduced a tiered rewards system and rolled tiering out across industries including farming, cooking, woodworking, metalworking, stone shaping, mining and lumberjacking. Specks, the personal land plots, were reworked too, with every player handed a starting plot carrying a Tier 1 house, trees, soil and a mine, upgradable five times.

Chapter 2.5 was not a content drop but a correction. According to the studio, it reduced daily coin inflation by close to 84%.

CEO Luke Barwikowski cast that stretch in balance-sheet terms, saying the priority was “building strong systems and sustainable economics first.” The team, he said, had been refining around a single metric, return on reward spend, which had climbed above one for the first time.

Bountyfall, otherwise known as Chapter 3, brought in Unions, a social layer lighter than guilds. Players choose between three factions, Wildgroves, Seedwrights or Reapers, with nothing gating the pick, and those three chase seasonal $PIXEL prize pools. Every union comes with its own yieldstone resource, Verdant, Flint or Hollow, spread over five tiers and obtained through taskboard tasks or by crafting on NFT lands.

The studio has been building outside the game

March saw the Pixels team release Stacked on Ronin, a rewards app through which players can run missions across multiple games, build streaks, and earn and withdraw in one place. For studios, it packages event tracking, targeting, reward logic, fraud controls and automated payouts, along with an AI game economist that analyzes cohorts and flags churn patterns.

Barwikowski has cast Pixels as a user-acquisition engine for other titles, surrounded by a platform of roughly five or six experimental games orbiting the flagship.

July brought a Kanstar integration. Pixelated animated versions with unique traits were issued for all 4,444 KANSTAR NFTs, and an in-game party at the Rave Cave on July 3 marked the occasion.

The chain moved first

Ronin’s own migration from an Ethereum sidechain to a full OP Stack layer 2 landed on May 12, carrying roughly 10 hours of mainnet downtime that left games unavailable. The network has since declared the move complete.

The way Ronin frames itself has shifted alongside it. Gaming got the network this far, the team wrote, but the next chapter of growth “will ask more of our movement,” adding that the goal is to become “the gamification engine of Ethereum.”

The new tokenomics write Pixels in directly. Proof of Distribution shifts $RON staking rewards away from passive validators and toward Governing Validators and Contributors, with Pixels named as a Contributor next to Moku, Compound, Ronkeverse and Axie Infinity (official site). Tracking of contributions began May 13, and reward periods run in seasons of roughly a month.

Pixels landed on Ronin in February 2024, and its developer said it reached 1 million daily active users, a claim almost no other crypto game has made. Ronin’s own daily active users went on to pass 2 million, per Token Terminal data.

The network has put that credit on the record. In a May post, Ronin described the moment the community rallied as “when Pixels brought Web3 gaming back in 2024.”
