Shibuya Raises $6.9M in a Seed Funding Round Led by A16z and Variant

Following their recent launch earlier this year, Shibuya, an NFT platform co-founded by Emily “pplpleasr” Yang, announced on Dec. 8 that it raised $6.9M to onboard new IPs and creators to the platform.

The funding round was co-led by A16z and Variant and also saw angel participation from NBA All-Star Kevin Durant, Joe Tsai, GMJP, Paris Hilton, and more.

Named after the crossing in Tokyo, Shibuya is a Web3 content studio and creator platform that uses decentralized technology (Blockchain) to distribute and monetize content securely.

The money raised from those notable investors named above will be used towards hiring a lead UI/UX designer, scaling the engineering team, and onboarding new IPs and creators, as mentioned above.
