In Brief:
- Press A, described by Soneium as a builder of a “next-gen gaming IP ecosystem,” got a promotional push from the Sony-backed Ethereum layer 2.
- The project is already live with gacha mechanics on the chain and was among four titles hosting bonus quests during Soneium Score Season 08.
- Funding, founders and IP partners all remain undisclosed, months on from the first mentions of the account by web3 gaming trackers.
The promotion came via Soneium’s primary X account, which described Press A as “creating a next-gen gaming IP ecosystem on Soneium, taking you from your first pull straight into a nostalgic, old-school gaming adventure.”
That post kicked off a numbered thread and directed followers toward @PressA_to_start. Absent from it: a launch date, a token, or any team members.

What Press A already does
This isn’t the project’s debut on the network. Press A was one of four titles running bonus quests in Season 08 of Soneium Score, sharing the slot with NekoCat, Kami and the Startale App. The two objectives assigned to it were playing Alpha Gacha and minting a single Unique-grade NFT.
Which explains the “first pull” reference. Gacha pulls on Press A hand back NFTs sorted into rarity tiers, and Unique sits high enough on that ladder for Soneium to build a quest around it. Neither drop rates nor pull costs have been published.
According to Soneium, every one of the four highlighted projects had appeared in earlier seasons.
The Score program
Score went live in August 2025 as a way to log on-chain activity and compensate contributors over 28-day quest cycles. Four components feed the points total: activity, liquidity, NFT and bonuses. Transactions, unique active days and streaks all roll into the activity score.
Once a wallet passes 80 points, it can mint a season badge that arrives as a soulbound token — non-transferable and locked to that address for good.
Thin paper trail
Step outside Soneium’s own channels and coverage of Press A all but disappears. Nothing has been disclosed about a funding round, no founders have been identified, and no IP partnerships have been announced.
There is an unrelated studio sharing the Press A name, based in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. That company dates to 2018, sits under Devsisters as a subsidiary, and has pulled in $9.68 million from investors such as SBVA, Smilegate Investment and Capstone Partners. Nothing in the public record links the two.
Chain background
Sony Block Solutions Labs builds Soneium on the OP Stack, placing it within Optimism’s Superchain. Its mainnet went live in January 2025. Reported figures for the network include upward of 500 million transactions, 5.4 million wallets and more than 250 applications in production.
January 2026 saw Sony Innovation Fund put another $13 million into Startale Group — the opening tranche of a Series A that lifted total disclosed funding to $20 million.
The gaming focus has been intentional. Over 1,700 applications came into the Soneium Spark Program, from which 32 winners working on web3 entertainment projects were chosen. An incubator followed, Soneium For All, targeting consumer and gaming applications and built together with Astar Network and Startale Cloud Services, backed by investment support from Sony Innovation Fund. Square Enix brought Symbiogenesis to the chain — the first web3 title from a major publisher to launch on it.
Games are only one piece of the parent company’s plans. Kazuhito Hashino, who heads on-chain business at Sony, has said the firm’s blockchain efforts are shifting out of experimentation and into commercialization, with the division rebranded as the On-chain Business Strategy Department. The roadmap spans music, animation, gaming, film and sports IP, plus legal frameworks and a GP/LP-style investment fund for entertainment projects.
Watchlists have carried Press A since February, when web3 gaming newsletter Gaming Daily slotted it into a roundup of projects to watch for Feb. 9-13. The write-up amounted to one line: “Not much info atm.”
