Web3 game developer The Backwoods has officially launched the $LEAF Season, airdropping 150 million tokens to over 500,000 eligible participants.
The event started on June 24 and is aimed at rewarding both players and supporters of the Solana-based roguelite game, including NFT holders, alpha testers, early adopters, and community members.
Airdrop Mechanics and Who Can Participate
The $LEAF Season is designed to be inclusive, targeting a wide range of users from new players to long-time community members. Token allocations will be distributed based on in-game activity, social engagement, and previous involvement in the project.
Users can start participating immediately by playing the game through their browser and connecting their Solana wallet, X (formerly Twitter), and Discord accounts.
Players who have taken part in earlier testing phases, such as the closed alpha, can now also claim points tied to their past activity. A special claim section on the official website lets these users connect their accounts and report compromised wallets if needed, ensuring that points are secured fairly.
Leaf Hunt and Social Integration
One of the standout features of this season is Leaf Hunt, a new browser extension available on the Chrome Web Store. Once installed, players can earn in-game Crystals by interacting with certain posts on X that display the $LEAF icon. Responding to these posts with the words “leaf season” twice a day allows players to collect Crystals, which can then be used in-game to unlock chests and gear.
Consistent activity over a week also unlocks a bonus quest that can grant up to 1,000 extra Crystals. These incentives aim to boost both in-game progression and social engagement, creating a more immersive community-driven event.
Gameplay and New Features
The Backwoods is a roguelite survival game where players battle waves of monsters in a 2D arena, collecting coins to upgrade weapons and gear during each run. Performance and activity directly impact airdrop eligibility, meaning the more you play, the higher your chances of earning $LEAF.
The new season brings a number of updates, including new map scenes, sub-camps, a pet system, and an improved season pass. Bosses now drop chests without needing keys, and the game has received a range of bug fixes to improve the overall experience.
