The Sandbox (official site) has launched a Game Creator Bounty worth $5,000 in total. Developers earn $50 for every game they make about a content creator they like. Submissions are open from 4 to 16 November, and payouts are limited to 100 eligible entries on a first-come, first-served basis.
The cap is two games per developer, which puts the maximum payout at $100 each. The Sandbox SAND $0.04218 ▼ -14.6% reviews every submission, and each one needs approval. Completing all the steps is no guarantee of being paid.
What the games need to be
Developers are asked to build an original game from a well-known personality’s interests, content and community. Two examples come from The Sandbox itself: a Casey Neistat game where he skates around New York, avoids taxis and picks up cameras, and a MrBeast game made of challenges that keep getting more ridiculous.
A game qualifies only if it works properly, plays well on mobile and can be opened from a public link. Developers must also add thumbnails and game metadata in The Sandbox’s creation portal.
The promotion step
A published game covers only part of the requirements. Entrants also have to post on X or TikTok with gameplay footage and a direct link to the game, tagging The Sandbox and the creator the game features. They then send both the game and the post in through a Google form. Campaign updates and a count of the remaining reward slots appear in a Discord channel.
What the rules exclude
Political campaigning is banned, along with harmful or defamatory content, broken games and anything that breaks intellectual property rights. It falls to developers to respect the rights of the people their games feature. An invitation to build a game about a creator gives no one permission to use that creator’s protected material.
Who gets the better deal
The bounty links game development directly to marketing. Developers get a small payment. AI tools can cut the time it takes to build a game, but $50 still pays for only a small part of the building, testing and promoting.
The Sandbox gains more. With all 100 slots filled, the platform would have 100 games and the promotional videos and posts attached to them, and each one can connect The Sandbox to an established creator and that creator’s audience. Since entrants must tag the creators, those creators may come across the games and share them.
The program also lines up with The Sandbox’s plans for its Sandbox Studio AI tools. According to the company, the tools will let anyone build complex games with its assets, NFTs included, and will support SAND token payments.
