More than 100 games have come out of The Sandbox Studio, the company’s AI game creation platform, after more than 100 handpicked creators spent 3.5 months in closed alpha and beta testing, The Sandbox said Saturday.

In its Oct. 3 post on X, the company counted eight product releases and four game jams across that stretch. “Public launch in October,” The Sandbox wrote, pointing prospective users toward a waitlist at create.sandbox.game.

Partners, tools and distribution

The Sandbox named Meshy and Scenario as partners and integrations and added “+ more soon.” Both tools turn prompts into 3D and visual assets. On The Sandbox’s creator hub, Meshy, Scenario and Tripo are listed as options for converting prompts into rigged, textured 3D character models.

The company called Studio’s tech stack open and listed Codex, Claude Code and Gemini. When it announced the platform in June, The Sandbox said creators could bring their own AI tools, naming Cursor, Claude Code and OpenAI Codex.

The company said distribution covers web, mobile and Telegram. The Sandbox had said earlier that games could be published to desktop, mobile web and Telegram Mini Apps. It also said it planned to add Steam, mobile app stores and YouTube Playables, among other platforms, over time.

Alpha to beta

Entry was limited from day one. The alpha drew more than 12,000 applications, and about 30 creators got in during the first phase. The Sandbox said it would admit up to 10 more creators each week.

The creators who got in had experience with Roblox, Unity and Unreal Engine, and many had used AI coding assistants such as OpenAI Codex. During the alpha, The Sandbox moved sign-in to a new Creator Portal linked to Sandbox accounts, which reduced its reliance on GitHub.

The alpha roadmap included groundwork for multiplayer, leaderboard services, asset collections, character rigging and better support for Agent Nova, the AI assistant built into Studio.

The beta opened on Aug. 12. Anyone who applied for the alpha but wasn’t selected could register.

Game jams

The first jam was open only to alpha creators and ran July 2-31. It had a $5,000 prize pool split among the top five submissions, and the top prize was $2,500. Winners were announced Aug. 7.

The Beta Creator Game Jam had a $7,500 prize pool and the theme “Overgrown.” Larry Hryb, who spent 15 years as the public face of Xbox, was lead judge. The creator hub now lists a Halloween Game Jam as live.

In August, The Sandbox added a section to sandbox.game that features games built with Studio. One of the early beta titles is Ricochet Rascals, a 3D arena brawler for up to six players.

Inside Studio

Studio was announced on June 9. It combines a game engine, editor, AI layer, monetization tools and a publishing pipeline, with a desktop SDK and visual editor that work alongside a built-in AI coding agent.

The Sandbox said creators could get a live, published multiplayer game running in under two hours. At launch, Studio included six production-ready TypeScript templates, covering first-person shooters, vehicle simulators and side-scrollers among others, plus more than 300,000 voxel assets. Creators don’t have to use the voxel style.

The templates have since received updated lighting and post-processing. They now cover first-person shooters, third-person games, side-scrollers, vehicles, virtual reality and free-camera experiences.

The Sandbox said it will take a small revenue share from games that monetize players. It also plans to build SAND into the platform’s monetization system.

The company had earlier said Studio would open to everyone in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Beta jam winners

Gary: Patient Zero was at the top of the beta jam winners list on sandbox.game. It is a tower defense game in which players fight an infection from inside Gary’s body.

The other winners were Living Dungeon, Omniscient and Farmadillo. The Sandbox described Farmadillo as “a farming sim crossed with pinball & tower defense gameplay.”
