In a recent Medium announcement, web3 game developer Trailblazer revealed that it will discontinue its deck-building PVP game, Eternal Dragons.

Despite two years of development involving a team of 23 individuals, Eternal Dragons failed to achieve product-market fit. Challenges such as the complexity of transitioning a web3 game from browser to mobile, legal compliance issues, and player manipulation for rewards contributed to the decision to sunset the game.

Founded by a team with experience from EA, King, and Microsoft, Trailblazer raised $8.2 million in March 2022. The Singapore-based company initially launched Eternal Dragons on browsers but later revamped it for mobile in an effort to expand its player base.

While the project did show some progress, the performance baseline was not strong enough to justify further investment. Trailblazer mentioned that development costs were eight times higher than what was raised from the NFT mint.

As part of the closure, Trailblazer plans to use remaining funds for a buyback program for NFT holders. The NFTs, originally launched on Solana, saw a decrease in value from $300 to $20. Based on the dragon’s rarity, the buyback offer for NFT holders will range from $12 to $12
