Upland players vote to burn 2.9M SPARKLET in the game’s second token burn

upland players vote to burn 2 9m sparklet in the games second token burn In Brief:

In Brief:

  • Upland (official site) has burned 2.9M SPARKLET after players approved the move in a community vote.
  • This is the second burn of this type. An earlier vote covered roughly 1.9M SPARKLET spent in Q1 2026.
  • Upland plans to keep asking players whether spent SPARKLET should be burned in the future.

In a post on X on Friday, Upland announced that it had burned 2.9M SPARKLET following a community vote.

“As voted for by all of you, we have now burned the 2.9M Sparklet,” Upland said. “This is the second time we’ve done this now, and we’ll keep polling you in the future to see if you want to keep doing so!”

Burn Complete
As voted for by all of you, we have now burned the 2.9M Sparklet. This is the second time we've done this now, and we'll keep polling you in the future to see if you want to keep doing so!

Upland didn’t share a vote tally or any transaction details in the post.

Source of the burned tokens

The proposal appeared on Upland’s official feedback board. It recommended burning the roughly 2.9M SPARKLET that players had spent on seed generation and Uppie merges so far in 2026, and a yes vote meant that amount would be burned.

According to Upland, earlier community feedback shaped the recommendation. Commenters on the board supported the burn. One argued that taking the tokens out of circulation for good would offset upcoming unlock schedules and cut dilution. Another said they were voting yes and held more than 300,000 SPARKLET.

The first vote

Upland held its first vote of this kind in the spring. That proposal dealt with approximately 1.9M SPARKLET spent on seed generation and Uppie merges during Q1 2026.

The voting window ran from 9 a.m. PT on Friday, May 1, 2026, to 9 a.m. PT on Monday, May 4. Upland’s recommendation was that the tokens “be burned and permanently removed from circulation.”

Upland said its existing reward and incentive pools had plenty of funding, and that shrinking supply “supports the long-term sustainability of SPARKLET.” Had players rejected the plan, Upland said it “will return with alternative suggestions for how this SPARKLET should be handled.”

At the time, Upland called it the first in a planned series of votes on future SPARKLET spent through in-game activities.

What happens to spent SPARKLET

According to Upland’s 2023 SPARKLET white paper, spent tokens collect in a dedicated account. The company said it would decide with the community whether to burn them, shift them to the grants or incentives allocations, or combine those options.

That framework requires the community to vote on and approve a proposal before the pooled tokens can be touched. In a later developer update, Upland said SPARKLET spent on new features would flow into a community-controlled pool, and players would vote on what to do with it. A burn is one possible outcome, and it doesn’t happen by default.

SPARKLET is an ERC-20 token. Upland players began spending it in 2025 on seed generation, Uppie merges and blueprint creation, and those activities filled both burn pools.

Upland closed its announcement by saying it would keep checking in with players: “we’ll keep polling you in the future to see if you want to keep doing so!”
