Zilk Road teases ZEC marketplace with a three-word post and an unverified $17 million raise

zilk road teases zec marketplace with a three word post and an unverif In Brief:

In Brief:

  • The account @zilkroad_ announced a Zcash marketplace with a single teaser post: “TOMORROW.” followed by “$ZEC // ENTER THE ZILK ROAD_”. No link, no team, no documentation.
  • A separate trader account said the project closed a roughly $17 million raise and that the marketplace goes live the same day. No public funding record corroborates either claim.
  • The teaser lands in the middle of ZEC’s strongest run in a decade, and at a point when native Zcash NFTs still depend on shielded-asset support that isn’t live on mainnet.

Zilk Road announced its marketplace with three words and a ticker.

“TOMORROW.” the project’s X account posted, followed by “$ZEC // ENTER THE ZILK ROAD_”. That was the entire announcement. The post carried no website, no contract address, no team names and no description of what the marketplace actually lists.

After a ~$17M raise yesterday and the marketplace going live later today, here’s what’s next:
A ZEC NFT mini-meta is coming
Most of what follows will be copy-paste teams trying to ride the attention, they won’t
The first collection that performs well and manages to capture

Where the $17 million figure came from

The funding claim didn’t come from Zilk Road. It came from a trader posting as @lucainweb3, who wrote: “After a ~$17M raise yesterday and the marketplace going live later today, here’s what’s next:”

Luca predicted what they called a “ZEC NFT mini-meta” and said most of the projects chasing it would fail. “Most of what follows will be copy-paste teams trying to ride the attention, they won’t” they said. The post was cut off mid-sentence where it was captured, at “The first collection that performs well and manages to capture”.

Searches of public funding databases and crypto trade coverage return no record of a raise by a company called Zilk Road, and no investor list has been published. Zilk Road hasn’t confirmed the figure itself. The $17 million number rests entirely on one trader’s post.

The technical question nobody has answered

Native NFTs on Zcash run through Zcash Shielded Assets, which is part of the protocol’s roadmap rather than a shipped mainnet feature. Other ZEC NFT projects have worked around that by holding pre-mainnet collections on a ZSA test network until the mainnet support lands, or by taking payment in ETH, SOL and USDC and settling into a shielded ZEC vault on the buyer’s behalf.

Zilk Road hasn’t said which approach it uses, or whether it uses either.

Why anyone is paying attention

ZEC is up 2,496% in 2026 and has climbed from the 82nd largest cryptocurrency by market cap to the seventh. It touched $1,249.28 on Sept. 6, its highest level since 2016, and gained about 16% over 24 hours this week while the broader market sold off.

Grayscale’s Zcash ETF began trading on NYSE Arca on Aug. 25 as the first U.S. fund offering direct ZEC exposure. It reported more than $500 million in assets under management by Sept. 8, including a single-day inflow high of $12.6 million on Sept. 2.

The ecosystem has drawn capital on the development side too. Zcash Open Development Lab, formed by the engineering and product team that resigned from Electric Coin Company in January after a governance dispute with the nonprofit Bootstrap, raised more than $25 million in seed funding announced March 9. Paradigm, a16z crypto, Winklevoss Capital, Coinbase Ventures, Cypherpunk Technologies, Maelstrom and Chapter One took part, alongside angels including Balaji Srinivasan, David Friedberg and Haseeb Qureshi.

That round was documented, dated and attributed. Zilk Road’s isn’t.

The project’s account has published no whitepaper, no roadmap and no contract address. Its announcement ended with an underscore.
